Chapter 9

4We must carry out the works of Him who sent Me as long as it is day; night is coming, when no one can work. 5While I am in the world, I am the Light of the world.' 6When He had said this, He spit on the ground, and made mud from the saliva, and applied the mud to his eyes, 7and said to him, 'Go, wash in the pool of Siloam' (which is translated, Sent). So he left and washed, and came back seeing. 8So the neighbors, and those who previously saw him as a beggar, were saying, 'Is this not the one who used to sit and beg?' 9Others were saying, 'This is he,' still others were saying, 'No, but he is like him.' The man himself kept saying, 'I am the one.'

4I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. 5As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. 6When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay, 7And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing. 8The neighbours therefore, and they which before had seen him that he was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and begged? 9Some said, This is he: others said, He is like him: but he said, I am he.

8His neighbors and those who had seen him before as a beggar said, "Isn’t this the one who used to sit begging?"
9Some said, "He’s the one." Others were saying, "No, but he looks like him." He kept saying, "I’m the one."

4We must quickly carry out the tasks assigned us by the one who sent us. The night is coming, and then no one can work. 5But while I am here in the world, I am the light of the world.'
6Then he spit on the ground, made mud with the saliva, and spread the mud over the blind man’s eyes. 7He told him, 'Go wash yourself in the pool of Siloam' (Siloam means 'sent'). So the man went and washed and came back seeing!
8His neighbors and others who knew him as a blind beggar asked each other, 'Isn’t this the man who used to sit and beg?'
9Some said he was, and others said, 'No, he just looks like him!' But the beggar kept saying, 'Yes, I am the same one!'

8His neighbors and those who had formerly seen him begging asked, "Isn’t this the same man who used to sit and beg?"
9Some claimed that he was. Others said, "No, he only looks like him." But he himself insisted, "I am the man."
