Chapter 18

2Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them, ‘I am the Lord your God. 3You shall not do what is done in the land of Egypt where you lived, nor are you to do what is done in the land of Canaan where I am bringing you; you shall not walk in their statutes. 4You are to perform My judgments and keep My statutes, to live in accord with them; I am the Lord your God. 5So you shall keep My statutes and My judgments, which, if a person follows them, then he will live by them; I am the Lord.
6‘None of you shall approach any blood relative of his to uncover nakedness; I am the Lord. 7You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father, that is, the nakedness of your mother. She is your mother; you are not to uncover her nakedness. 8You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father’s wife; it is your father’s nakedness. 9As for the nakedness of your sister, either your father’s daughter or your mother’s daughter, whether born in the household or born outside the household, you shall not uncover their nakedness. 10The nakedness of your son’s daughter or your daughter’s daughter, their nakedness you shall not uncover; for their nakedness is yours. 11The nakedness of your father’s wife’s daughter, born to your father, she is your sister; you shall not uncover her nakedness. 12You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father’s sister; she is your father’s blood relative. 13You shall not uncover the nakedness of your mother’s sister, for she is your mother’s blood relative. 14You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father’s brother. You shall not approach his wife; she is your aunt.

2"Speak to the Israelites and tell them: I am the Lord your God. 3Do not follow the practices of the land of Egypt, where you used to live, or follow the practices of the land of Canaan, where I am bringing you. You must not follow their customs. 4You are to practice my ordinances and you are to keep my statutes by following them; I am the Lord your God. 5Keep my statutes and ordinances; a person will live if he does them. I am the Lord.
6"You are not to come near any close relative for sexual intercourse; I am the Lord. 7You are not to violate the intimacy that belongs to your father and mother. She is your mother; you must not have sexual intercourse with her. 8You are not to have sex with your father’s wife; she is your father’s family. 9You are not to have sexual intercourse with your sister, either your father’s daughter or your mother’s, whether born at home or born elsewhere. You are not to have sex with her. 10You are not to have sexual intercourse with your son’s daughter or your daughter’s daughter, for they are your family. 11You are not to have sexual intercourse with your father’s wife’s daughter, who is adopted by your father; she is your sister. 12You are not to have sexual intercourse with your father’s sister; she is your father’s close relative. 13You are not to have sexual intercourse with your mother’s sister, for she is your mother’s close relative. 14You are not to violate the intimacy that belongs to your father’s brother by approaching his wife to have sexual intercourse; she is your aunt.

Chapter 18

2Give the following instructions to the people of Israel. I am the Lord your God. 3So do not act like the people in Egypt, where you used to live, or like the people of Canaan, where I am taking you. You must not imitate their way of life. 4You must obey all my regulations and be careful to obey my decrees, for I am the Lord your God. 5If you obey my decrees and my regulations, you will find life through them. I am the Lord.
6You must never have sexual relations with a close relative, for I am the Lord.
7Do not violate your father by having sexual relations with your mother. She is your mother; you must not have sexual relations with her.
8Do not have sexual relations with any of your father’s wives, for this would violate your father.
9Do not have sexual relations with your sister or half sister, whether she is your father’s daughter or your mother’s daughter, whether she was born into your household or someone else’s.
10Do not have sexual relations with your granddaughter, whether she is your son’s daughter or your daughter’s daughter, for this would violate yourself.
11Do not have sexual relations with your stepsister, the daughter of any of your father’s wives, for she is your sister.
12Do not have sexual relations with your father’s sister, for she is your father’s close relative.
13Do not have sexual relations with your mother’s sister, for she is your mother’s close relative.
14Do not violate your uncle, your father’s brother, by having sexual relations with his wife, for she is your aunt.
