Luke 12:4-23
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 12
4Now I say to you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that have nothing more that they can do. 5But I will warn you whom to fear: fear the One who, after He has killed someone, has the power to throw that person into hell; yes, I tell you, fear Him! 6Are five sparrows not sold for two assaria? And yet not one of them has gone unnoticed in the sight of God. 7But even the hairs of your head are all counted. Do not fear; you are more valuable than a great number of sparrows.
8Now I say to you, everyone who confesses Me before people, the Son of Man will also confess him before the angels of God;
9but the one who denies Me before people will be denied before the angels of God.
10And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but the one who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him.
11Now when they bring you before the synagogues and the officials and the authorities, do not worry about how or what you are to speak in your defense, or what you are to say;
12for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.'
13Now someone in the crowd said to Him, 'Teacher, tell my brother to divide the family inheritance with me.'
14But He said to him, 'You there—who appointed Me a judge or arbitrator over the two of you?'
15But He said to them, 'Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed; for not even when one is affluent does his life consist of his possessions.'
16And He told them a parable, saying, 'The land of a rich man was very productive.
17And he began thinking to himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, since I have no place to store my crops?’
18And he said, ‘This is what I will do: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and I will store all my grain and my goods there.
19And I will say to myself, 'You have many goods stored up for many years to come; relax, eat, drink, and enjoy yourself!'?’
20But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your soul is demanded of you; and as for all that you have prepared, who will own it now?’
21Such is the one who stores up treasure for himself, and is not rich in relation to God.'
King James Version
Chapter 12
4And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. 5But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him. 6Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? 7But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.
8Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God:
9But he that denieth me before men shall be denied before the angels of God.
10And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven.
11And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say:
12For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.
13And one of the company said unto him, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me.
14And he said unto him, Man, who made me a judge or a divider over you
15And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.
16And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully:
17And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?
18And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.
19And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.
20But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?
21So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

Chapter 12
4"I say to you, my friends, don’t fear those who kill the body, and after that can do nothing more. 5But I will show you the one to fear: Fear him who has authority to throw people into hell after death. Yes, I say to you, this is the one to fear! 6Aren’t five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten in God’s sight. 7Indeed, the hairs of your head are all counted. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
8"And I say to you, anyone who acknowledges me before others, the Son of Man will also acknowledge him before the angels of God,
9but whoever denies me before others will be denied before the angels of God.
10Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but the one who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.
11Whenever they bring you before synagogues and rulers and authorities, don’t worry about how you should defend yourselves or what you should say.
12For the Holy Spirit will teach you at that very hour what must be said."
14"Friend," he said to him, "who appointed me a judge or arbitrator over you?"
15He then told them, "Watch out and be on guard against all greed, because one’s life is not in the abundance of his possessions."
16Then he told them a parable: "A rich man’s land was very productive.
17He thought to himself, ‘What should I do, since I don’t have anywhere to store my crops?
18I will do this,’ he said. ‘I’ll tear down my barns and build bigger ones and store all my grain and my goods there.
19Then I’ll say to myself, "You have many goods stored up for many years. Take it easy; eat, drink, and enjoy yourself."’

Chapter 12
4Dear friends, don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot do any more to you after that. 5But I’ll tell you whom to fear. Fear God, who has the power to kill you and then throw you into hell. Yes, he’s the one to fear.
6What is the price of five sparrows — two copper coins ? Yet God does not forget a single one of them.
7And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.
8I tell you the truth, everyone who acknowledges me publicly here on earth, the Son of Man will also acknowledge in the presence of God’s angels.
9But anyone who denies me here on earth will be denied before God’s angels.
10Anyone who speaks against the Son of Man can be forgiven, but anyone who blasphemes the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.
11And when you are brought to trial in the synagogues and before rulers and authorities, don’t worry about how to defend yourself or what to say,
12for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what needs to be said.'
14Jesus replied, 'Friend, who made me a judge over you to decide such things as that?'
15Then he said, 'Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.'
16Then he told them a story: 'A rich man had a fertile farm that produced fine crops.
17He said to himself, ‘What should I do? I don’t have room for all my crops.’
18Then he said, ‘I know! I’ll tear down my barns and build bigger ones. Then I’ll have room enough to store all my wheat and other goods.
19And I’ll sit back and say to myself, 'My friend, you have enough stored away for years to come. Now take it easy! Eat, drink, and be merry!'’
