Chapter 12
51Do you think that I came to provide peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division; 52for from now on five members in one household will be divided, three against two and two against three. 53They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.'
54And He was also saying to the crowds, 'Whenever you see a cloud rising in the west, you immediately say, ‘A shower is coming,’ and so it turns out.
55And whenever you feel a south wind blowing, you say, ‘It will be a hot day,’ and it turns out that way.
56You hypocrites! You know how to analyze the appearance of the earth and the sky, but how is it that you do not know how to analyze this present time?

51Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division: 52For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three. 53The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
54And he said also to the people, When ye see a cloud rise out of the west, straightway ye say, There cometh a shower; and so it is.
55And when ye see the south wind blow, ye say, There will be heat; and it cometh to pass.
56Ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not discern this time?

54He also said to the crowds: "When you see a cloud rising in the west, right away you say, ‘A storm is coming,’ and so it does.
55And when the south wind is blowing, you say, ‘It’s going to be hot,’ and it is.
56Hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky, but why don’t you know how to interpret this present time?

51Do you think I have come to bring peace to the earth? No, I have come to divide people against each other! 52From now on families will be split apart, three in favor of me, and two against — or two in favor and three against.
54Then Jesus turned to the crowd and said, 'When you see clouds beginning to form in the west, you say, ‘Here comes a shower.’ And you are right.
55When the south wind blows, you say, ‘Today will be a scorcher.’ And it is.
56You fools! You know how to interpret the weather signs of the earth and sky, but you don’t know how to interpret the present times.
