Luke 14:22-29
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 14
22And later the slave said, ‘Master, what you commanded has been done, and still there is room.’ 23And the master said to the slave, ‘Go out into the roads and the hedges and press upon them to come in, so that my house will be filled. 24For I tell you, none of those men who were invited shall taste my dinner.’?'
25Now large crowds were going along with Him, and He turned and said to them,
26If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his own father, mother, wife, children, brothers, sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple.
27Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.
28For which one of you, when he wants to build a tower, does not first sit down and calculate the cost, to see if he has enough to complete it?
29Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who are watching it will begin to ridicule him,
King James Version
Chapter 14
22And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room. 23And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. 24For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.
25And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them,
26If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
27And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.
28For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?
29Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him,
Christian Standard Bible
23"Then the master told the servant, ‘Go out into the highways and hedges and make them come in, so that my house may be filled.
24For I tell you, not one of those people who were invited will enjoy my banquet.’"
25Now great crowds were traveling with him. So he turned and said to them:
26"If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, and even his own life—he cannot be my disciple.
27Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple.
New Living Translation
Chapter 14
22After the servant had done this, he reported, ‘There is still room for more.’ 23So his master said, ‘Go out into the country lanes and behind the hedges and urge anyone you find to come, so that the house will be full. 24For none of those I first invited will get even the smallest taste of my banquet.’'
25A large crowd was following Jesus. He turned around and said to them,
26If you want to be my disciple, you must, by comparison, hate everyone else — your father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters — yes, even your own life. Otherwise, you cannot be my disciple.
27And if you do not carry your own cross and follow me, you cannot be my disciple.
