Luke 19:16-38
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 19
16The first slave appeared, saying, ‘ Master, your mina has made ten minas more.’ 17And he said to him, ‘Well done, good slave; since you have been faithful in a very little thing, you are to have authority over ten cities.’ 18The second one came, saying, ‘Your mina, master, has made five minas.’ 19And he said to him also, ‘And you are to be over five cities.’ 20And then another came, saying, ‘Master, here is your mina, which I kept tucked away in a handkerchief; 21for I was afraid of you, because you are a demanding man; you take up what you did not lay down, and reap what you did not sow.’ 22He *said to him, ‘ From your own lips I will judge you, you worthless slave. Did you know that I am a demanding man, taking up what I did not lay down, and reaping what I did not sow? 23And so why did you not put my money in the bank, and when I came back, I would have collected it with interest?’ 24And then he said to the other slaves who were present, ‘Take the mina away from him and give it to the one who has the ten minas.’ 25And they said to him, ‘Master, he already has ten minas.’ 26‘I tell you that to everyone who has, more shall be given, but from the one who does not have, even what he does have shall be taken away. 27But as for these enemies of mine who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slaughter them in my presence.’?'
29When He approached Bethphage and Bethany, near the mountain that is called Olivet, He sent two of the disciples,
30saying, 'Go into the village ahead of you; there, as you enter, you will find a colt tied, on which no one yet has ever sat; untie it and bring it here.
31And if anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ you shall say this: ‘ The Lord has need of it.’?'
32So those who were sent left and found it just as He had told them.
33And as they were untying the colt, its owners said to them, 'Why are you untying the colt?'
34They said, 'The Lord has need of it.'
35And they brought it to Jesus, and they threw their cloaks on the colt and put Jesus on it.
36Now as He was going, they were spreading their cloaks on the road.
37And as soon as He was approaching, near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the miracles which they had seen,

Chapter 19
16Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds. 17And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities. 18And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds. 19And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities. 20And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin: 21For I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that thou layedst not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow. 22And he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow: 23Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury? 24And he said unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to him that hath ten pounds. 25And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds.) 26For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him. 27But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.
28And when he had thus spoken, he went before, ascending up to Jerusalem.
29And it came to pass, when he was come nigh to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount called the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples,
30Saying, Go ye into the village over against you; in the which at your entering ye shall find a colt tied, whereon yet never man sat: loose him, and bring him hither.
31And if any man ask you, Why do ye loose him? thus shall ye say unto him, Because the Lord hath need of him.
32And they that were sent went their way, and found even as he had said unto them.
33And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose ye the colt?
34And they said, The Lord hath need of him.
35And they brought him to Jesus: and they cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus thereon.
36And as he went, they spread their clothes in the way.
37And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen;
38Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.

20"And another came and said, ‘Master, here is your mina. I have kept it safe in a cloth
21because I was afraid of you since you’re a harsh man: you collect what you didn’t deposit and reap what you didn’t sow.’
22"He told him, ‘I will condemn you by what you have said, you evil servant! If you knew I was a harsh man, collecting what I didn’t deposit and reaping what I didn’t sow,
23why, then, didn’t you put my money in the bank? And when I returned, I would have collected it with interest.’
24So he said to those standing there, ‘Take the mina away from him and give it to the one who has ten minas.’
26"‘I tell you, that to everyone who has, more will be given; and from the one who does not have, even what he does have will be taken away.
27But bring here these enemies of mine, who did not want me to rule over them, and slaughter them in my presence.’"
28When he had said these things, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.
29As he approached Bethphage and Bethany, at the place called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of the disciples
30and said, "Go into the village ahead of you. As you enter it, you will find a young donkey tied there, on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it.
31If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ say this: ‘The Lord needs it.’"
32So those who were sent left and found it just as he had told them.
33As they were untying the young donkey, its owners said to them, "Why are you untying the donkey?"
34"The Lord needs it," they said.
35Then they brought it to Jesus, and after throwing their clothes on the donkey, they helped Jesus get on it.
36As he was going along, they were spreading their clothes on the road.
37Now he came near the path down the Mount of Olives, and the whole crowd of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the miracles they had seen:
New Living Translation
20But the third servant brought back only the original amount of money and said, ‘Master, I hid your money and kept it safe.
21I was afraid because you are a hard man to deal with, taking what isn’t yours and harvesting crops you didn’t plant.’
22‘You wicked servant!’ the king roared. ‘Your own words condemn you. If you knew that I’m a hard man who takes what isn’t mine and harvests crops I didn’t plant,
23why didn’t you deposit my money in the bank? At least I could have gotten some interest on it.’
26‘Yes,’ the king replied, ‘and to those who use well what they are given, even more will be given. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away.
27And as for these enemies of mine who didn’t want me to be their king — bring them in and execute them right here in front of me.’'
28After telling this story, Jesus went on toward Jerusalem, walking ahead of his disciples.
29As he came to the towns of Bethphage and Bethany on the Mount of Olives, he sent two disciples ahead.
30Go into that village over there,' he told them. 'As you enter it, you will see a young donkey tied there that no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here.
31If anyone asks, ‘Why are you untying that colt?’ just say, ‘The Lord needs it.’'
32So they went and found the colt, just as Jesus had said.
33And sure enough, as they were untying it, the owners asked them, 'Why are you untying that colt?'
34And the disciples simply replied, 'The Lord needs it.'
35So they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their garments over it for him to ride on.

22"His master replied, ‘I will judge you by your own words, you wicked servant! You knew, did you, that I am a hard man, taking out what I did not put in, and reaping what I did not sow?
