Luke 23:23-51

Chapter 23
23But they were insistent, with loud voices, demanding that He be crucified. And their voices began to prevail. 24And so Pilate decided to have their demand carried out. 25And he released the man for whom they were asking, who had been thrown into prison for a revolt and murder; but he handed Jesus over to their will.
27Now following Him was a large crowd of the people, and of women who were mourning and grieving for Him.
28But Jesus turned to them and said, 'Daughters of Jerusalem, stop weeping for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.
29For behold, days are coming when they will say, ‘Blessed are those who cannot bear, and the wombs that have not given birth, and the breasts that have not nursed.’
30Then they will begin TO SAY TO THE MOUNTAINS, ‘FALL ON US,’ AND TO THE HILLS, ‘COVER US.’
31For if they do these things when the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?'
33And when they came to the place called The Skull, there they crucified Him and the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left.
34[ But Jesus was saying, 'Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.'] And they cast lots, dividing His garments among themselves.
35And the people stood by, watching. And even the rulers were sneering at Him, saying, 'He saved others; let Him save Himself if this is the Christ of God, His Chosen One.'
36The soldiers also ridiculed Him, coming up to Him, offering Him sour wine,
37and saying, 'If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself!'
38Now there was also an inscription above Him, 'THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.'
39One of the criminals who were hanged there was hurling abuse at Him, saying, 'Are You not the Christ? Save Yourself and us!'
40But the other responded, and rebuking him, said, 'Do you not even fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation?
41And we indeed are suffering justly, for we are receiving what we deserve for our crimes; but this man has done nothing wrong.'
42And he was saying, 'Jesus, remember me when You come into Your kingdom!'
43And He said to him, 'Truly I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.'
44It was now about the sixth hour, and darkness came over the entire land until the ninth hour,
45because the sun stopped shining; and the veil of the temple was torn in two.
46And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, 'Father, INTO YOUR HANDS I ENTRUST MY SPIRIT.' And having said this, He died.
47Now when the centurion saw what had happened, he began praising God, saying, 'This man was in fact innocent.'
48And all the crowds who came together for this spectacle, after watching what had happened, began to return home, beating their chests.
49And all His acquaintances and the women who accompanied Him from Galilee were standing at a distance, seeing these things.

23And they were instant with loud voices, requiring that he might be crucified. And the voices of them and of the chief priests prevailed. 24And Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they required. 25And he released unto them him that for sedition and murder was cast into prison, whom they had desired; but he delivered Jesus to their will.
26And as they led him away, they laid hold upon one Simon, a Cyrenian, coming out of the country, and on him they laid the cross, that he might bear it after Jesus.
27And there followed him a great company of people, and of women, which also bewailed and lamented him.
28But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children.
29For, behold, the days are coming, in the which they shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the paps which never gave suck.
30Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us.
32And there were also two other, malefactors, led with him to be put to death.
33And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.
34Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.
35And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them derided him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if he be Christ, the chosen of God.
36And the soldiers also mocked him, coming to him, and offering him vinegar,
37And saying, If thou be the king of the Jews, save thyself.
38And a superscription also was written over him in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
39And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.
40But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?
41And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.
42And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.
43And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.
44And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour.
45And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst.
46And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.
47Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man.
48And all the people that came together to that sight, beholding the things which were done, smote their breasts, and returned.
49And all his acquaintance, and the women that followed him from Galilee, stood afar off, beholding these things.

32Two others—criminals —were also led away to be executed with him.
33When they arrived at the place called The Skull, they crucified him there, along with the criminals, one on the right and one on the left.
34Then Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, because they do not know what they are doing." And they divided his clothes and cast lots.
35The people stood watching, and even the leaders were scoffing: "He saved others; let him save himself if this is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One!"
36The soldiers also mocked him. They came offering him sour wine
37and said, "If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!"
40But the other answered, rebuking him: "Don’t you even fear God, since you are undergoing the same punishment?
41We are punished justly, because we’re getting back what we deserve for the things we did, but this man has done nothing wrong."
42Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom."
44It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three,
45because the sun’s light failed. The curtain of the sanctuary was split down the middle.
46And Jesus called out with a loud voice, "Father, into your hands I entrust my spirit." Saying this, he breathed his last.
47When the centurion saw what happened, he began to glorify God, saying, "This man really was righteous!"
48All the crowds that had gathered for this spectacle, when they saw what had taken place, went home, striking their chests.
49But all who knew him, including the women who had followed him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things.

23But the mob shouted louder and louder, demanding that Jesus be crucified, and their voices prevailed. 24So Pilate sentenced Jesus to die as they demanded. 25As they had requested, he released Barabbas, the man in prison for insurrection and murder. But he turned Jesus over to them to do as they wished.
26As they led Jesus away, a man named Simon, who was from Cyrene, happened to be coming in from the countryside. The soldiers seized him and put the cross on him and made him carry it behind Jesus.
27A large crowd trailed behind, including many grief-stricken women.
28But Jesus turned and said to them, 'Daughters of Jerusalem, don’t weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.
29For the days are coming when they will say, ‘Fortunate indeed are the women who are childless, the wombs that have not borne a child and the breasts that have never nursed.’
30People will beg the mountains, ‘Fall on us,’ and plead with the hills, ‘Bury us.’
31For if these things are done when the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry? '
32Two others, both criminals, were led out to be executed with him.
33When they came to a place called The Skull, they nailed him to the cross. And the criminals were also crucified — one on his right and one on his left.
35The crowd watched and the leaders scoffed. 'He saved others,' they said, 'let him save himself if he is really God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.'
36The soldiers mocked him, too, by offering him a drink of sour wine.
37They called out to him, 'If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!'
38A sign was fastened above him with these words: 'This is the King of the Jews.'
40But the other criminal protested, 'Don’t you fear God even when you have been sentenced to die?
41We deserve to die for our crimes, but this man hasn’t done anything wrong.'
42Then he said, 'Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.'
44By this time it was about noon, and darkness fell across the whole land until three o’clock.
45The light from the sun was gone. And suddenly, the curtain in the sanctuary of the Temple was torn down the middle.
46Then Jesus shouted, 'Father, I entrust my spirit into your hands!' And with those words he breathed his last.
47When the Roman officer overseeing the execution saw what had happened, he worshiped God and said, 'Surely this man was innocent. '
48And when all the crowd that came to see the crucifixion saw what had happened, they went home in deep sorrow.
49But Jesus’ friends, including the women who had followed him from Galilee, stood at a distance watching.

And their voices prevailed. 24So Pilate decided that their demand should be granted. 25He released the man who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, for whom they asked, but he delivered Jesus over to their will.
26And as they led him away, they seized one Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the country, and laid on him the cross, to carry it behind Jesus.
27And there followed him a great multitude of the people and of women who were mourning and lamenting for him.
