Luke 23:34-42
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 23
34[ But Jesus was saying, 'Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.'] And they cast lots, dividing His garments among themselves. 35And the people stood by, watching. And even the rulers were sneering at Him, saying, 'He saved others; let Him save Himself if this is the Christ of God, His Chosen One.' 36The soldiers also ridiculed Him, coming up to Him, offering Him sour wine, 37and saying, 'If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself!' 38Now there was also an inscription above Him, 'THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.'
39One of the criminals who were hanged there was hurling abuse at Him, saying, 'Are You not the Christ? Save Yourself and us!'
40But the other responded, and rebuking him, said, 'Do you not even fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation?
41And we indeed are suffering justly, for we are receiving what we deserve for our crimes; but this man has done nothing wrong.'
42And he was saying, 'Jesus, remember me when You come into Your kingdom!'
King James Version
Chapter 23
34Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots. 35And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them derided him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if he be Christ, the chosen of God. 36And the soldiers also mocked him, coming to him, and offering him vinegar, 37And saying, If thou be the king of the Jews, save thyself. 38And a superscription also was written over him in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
39And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.
40But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?
41And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.
42And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.
Christian Standard Bible
35The people stood watching, and even the leaders were scoffing: "He saved others; let him save himself if this is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One!"
36The soldiers also mocked him. They came offering him sour wine
37and said, "If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!"
40But the other answered, rebuking him: "Don’t you even fear God, since you are undergoing the same punishment?
41We are punished justly, because we’re getting back what we deserve for the things we did, but this man has done nothing wrong."
42Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom."
New Living Translation
35The crowd watched and the leaders scoffed. 'He saved others,' they said, 'let him save himself if he is really God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.'
36The soldiers mocked him, too, by offering him a drink of sour wine.
37They called out to him, 'If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!'
38A sign was fastened above him with these words: 'This is the King of the Jews.'
