Luke 24:29-49
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 24
29And so they strongly urged Him, saying, 'Stay with us, for it is getting toward evening, and the day is now nearly over.' So He went in to stay with them. 30And it came about, when He had reclined at the table with them, that He took the bread and blessed it, and He broke it and began giving it to them. 31And then their eyes were opened and they recognized Him; and He vanished from their sight. 32They said to one another, 'Were our hearts not burning within us when He was speaking to us on the road, while He was explaining the Scriptures to us?' 33And they got up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together and those who were with them, 34saying, 'The Lord has really risen and has appeared to Simon!' 35They began to relate their experiences on the road, and how He was recognized by them at the breaking of the bread.
36Now while they were telling these things, Jesus Himself suddenly stood in their midst and *said to them, 'Peace be to you.'
37But they were startled and frightened, and thought that they were looking at a spirit.
38And He said to them, 'Why are you frightened, and why are doubts arising in your hearts?
39See My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself; touch Me and see, because a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you plainly see that I have.'
40And when He had said this, He showed them His hands and His feet.
41While they still could not believe it because of their joy and astonishment, He said to them, 'Have you anything here to eat?'
42They served Him a piece of broiled fish;
43and He took it and ate it in front of them.
44Now He said to them, 'These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all the things that are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.'
45Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures,
46and He said to them, 'So it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise from the dead on the third day,
47and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.
48You are witnesses of these things.
49And behold, I am sending the promise of My Father upon you; but you are to stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.'

Chapter 24
29But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them. 30And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them. 31And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight. 32And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures? 33And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them, 34Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon.
35And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread.
36And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
37But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.
38And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled and why do thoughts arise in your hearts
39Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.
40And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet.
41And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat
42And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb.
44And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.
45Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
46And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
47And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
48And ye are witnesses of these things.
49And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

30It was as he reclined at the table with them that he took the bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them.
31Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized him, but he disappeared from their sight.
32They said to each other, "Weren’t our hearts burning within us while he was talking with us on the road and explaining the Scriptures to us?"
33That very hour they got up and returned to Jerusalem. They found the Eleven and those with them gathered together,
34who said, "The Lord has truly been raised and has appeared to Simon!"
35Then they began to describe what had happened on the road and how he was made known to them in the breaking of the bread.
36As they were saying these things, he himself stood in their midst. He said to them, "Peace to you!"
37But they were startled and terrified and thought they were seeing a ghost.
38"Why are you troubled?" he asked them. "And why do doubts arise in your hearts?
39Look at my hands and my feet, that it is I myself! Touch me and see, because a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you can see I have."
40Having said this, he showed them his hands and feet.
41But while they still were amazed and in disbelief because of their joy, he asked them, "Do you have anything here to eat?"
42So they gave him a piece of a broiled fish,
43and he took it and ate in their presence.
44He told them, "These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you—that everything written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms must be fulfilled."
45Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures.
46He also said to them, "This is what is written: The Messiah would suffer and rise from the dead the third day,
47and repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in his name to all the nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
48You are witnesses of these things.
49And look, I am sending you what my Father promised. As for you, stay in the city until you are empowered from on high."

Chapter 24
29but they begged him, 'Stay the night with us, since it is getting late.' So he went home with them. 30As they sat down to eat, he took the bread and blessed it. Then he broke it and gave it to them. 31Suddenly, their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And at that moment he disappeared!
32They said to each other, 'Didn’t our hearts burn within us as he talked with us on the road and explained the Scriptures to us?'
33And within the hour they were on their way back to Jerusalem. There they found the eleven disciples and the others who had gathered with them,
34who said, 'The Lord has really risen! He appeared to Peter. '
35Then the two from Emmaus told their story of how Jesus had appeared to them as they were walking along the road, and how they had recognized him as he was breaking the bread.
36And just as they were telling about it, Jesus himself was suddenly standing there among them. 'Peace be with you,' he said.
37But the whole group was startled and frightened, thinking they were seeing a ghost!
38Why are you frightened?' he asked. 'Why are your hearts filled with doubt?
39Look at my hands. Look at my feet. You can see that it’s really me. Touch me and make sure that I am not a ghost, because ghosts don’t have bodies, as you see that I do.'
40As he spoke, he showed them his hands and his feet.
41Still they stood there in disbelief, filled with joy and wonder. Then he asked them, 'Do you have anything here to eat?'
42They gave him a piece of broiled fish,
43and he ate it as they watched.
44Then he said, 'When I was with you before, I told you that everything written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and in the Psalms must be fulfilled.'
45Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures.
46And he said, 'Yes, it was written long ago that the Messiah would suffer and die and rise from the dead on the third day.
47It was also written that this message would be proclaimed in the authority of his name to all the nations, beginning in Jerusalem: ‘There is forgiveness of sins for all who repent.’
48You are witnesses of all these things.
