Luke 8:29-47
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 8
29For He had already commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For it had seized him many times; and he was bound with chains and shackles and kept under guard, and yet he would break the restraints and be driven by the demon into the desert. 30And Jesus asked him, 'What is your name?' And he said, 'Legion'; because many demons had entered him. 31And they were begging Him not to command them to go away into the abyss.
32Now there was a herd of many pigs feeding there on the mountain; and the demons begged Him to permit them to enter the pigs. And He gave them permission.
33And the demons came out of the man and entered the pigs; and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and was drowned.
34Now when the herdsmen saw what had happened, they ran away and reported everything in the city, and in the country.
35And the people came out to see what had happened; and they came to Jesus and found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting down at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind; and they became frightened.
36Those who had seen everything reported to them how the man who had been demon-possessed had been made well.
37And all the people of the territory of the Gerasenes and the surrounding region asked Him to leave them, because they were overwhelmed by great fear; and He got into a boat and returned.
38But the man from whom the demons had gone out was begging Him that he might accompany Him; but Jesus sent him away, saying,
39Return to your home and describe what great things God has done for you.' So he went away, proclaiming throughout the city what great things Jesus had done for him.
40And as Jesus was returning, the people welcomed Him, for they had all been waiting for Him.
41And a man named Jairus came, and he was an official of the synagogue; and he fell at Jesus’ feet, and began urging Him to come to his house;
42for he had an only daughter, about twelve years old, and she was dying. But as He went, the crowds were pressing against Him.
43And a woman who had suffered a chronic flow of blood for twelve years, and could not be healed by anyone,
44came up behind Him and touched the fringe of His cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped.
45And Jesus said, 'Who is the one who touched Me?' And while they were all denying it, Peter said, 'Master, the people are crowding and pressing in on You.'
46But Jesus said, 'Someone did touch Me, for I was aware that power had left Me.'
47Now when the woman saw that she had not escaped notice, she came trembling and fell down before Him, and admitted in the presence of all the people the reason why she had touched Him, and how she had been immediately healed.

For oftentimes it had caught him: and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he brake the bands, and was driven of the devil into the wilderness.) 30And Jesus asked him, saying, What is thy name And he said, Legion: because many devils were entered into him. 31And they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep.
32And there was there an herd of many swine feeding on the mountain: and they besought him that he would suffer them to enter into them. And he suffered them.
33Then went the devils out of the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choked.
34When they that fed them saw what was done, they fled, and went and told it in the city and in the country.
35Then they went out to see what was done; and came to Jesus, and found the man, out of whom the devils were departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.
36They also which saw it told them by what means he that was possessed of the devils was healed.
37Then the whole multitude of the country of the Gadarenes round about besought him to depart from them; for they were taken with great fear: and he went up into the ship, and returned back again.
38Now the man out of whom the devils were departed besought him that he might be with him: but Jesus sent him away, saying,
40And it came to pass, that, when Jesus was returned, the people gladly received him: for they were all waiting for him.
41And, behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue: and he fell down at Jesus' feet, and besought him that he would come into his house:
42For he had one only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she lay a dying. But as he went the people thronged him.
43And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any,
44Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched.
45And Jesus said, Who touched me When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me
46And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.
47And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately.

30"What is your name?" Jesus asked him. "Legion," he said, because many demons had entered him.
31And they begged him not to banish them to the abyss.
32A large herd of pigs was there, feeding on the hillside. The demons begged him to permit them to enter the pigs, and he gave them permission.
33The demons came out of the man and entered the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and drowned.
34When the men who tended them saw what had happened, they ran off and reported it in the town and in the countryside.
35Then people went out to see what had happened. They came to Jesus and found the man the demons had departed from, sitting at Jesus’s feet, dressed and in his right mind. And they were afraid.
36Meanwhile, the eyewitnesses reported to them how the demon-possessed man was delivered.
37Then all the people of the Gerasene region asked him to leave them, because they were gripped by great fear. So getting into the boat, he returned.
38The man from whom the demons had departed begged him earnestly to be with him. But he sent him away and said,
39"Go back to your home, and tell all that God has done for you." And off he went, proclaiming throughout the town how much Jesus had done for him.
40When Jesus returned, the crowd welcomed him, for they were all expecting him.
41Just then, a man named Jairus came. He was a leader of the synagogue. He fell down at Jesus’s feet and pleaded with him to come to his house,
42because he had an only daughter about twelve years old, and she was dying. While he was going, the crowds were nearly crushing him.
43A woman suffering from bleeding for twelve years, who had spent all she had on doctors and yet could not be healed by any,

New Living Translation
30Jesus demanded, 'What is your name?' 'Legion,' he replied, for he was filled with many demons.
31The demons kept begging Jesus not to send them into the bottomless pit.
32There happened to be a large herd of pigs feeding on the hillside nearby, and the demons begged him to let them enter into the pigs. So Jesus gave them permission.
33Then the demons came out of the man and entered the pigs, and the entire herd plunged down the steep hillside into the lake and drowned.
34When the herdsmen saw it, they fled to the nearby town and the surrounding countryside, spreading the news as they ran.
35People rushed out to see what had happened. A crowd soon gathered around Jesus, and they saw the man who had been freed from the demons. He was sitting at Jesus’ feet, fully clothed and perfectly sane, and they were all afraid.
36Then those who had seen what happened told the others how the demon-possessed man had been healed.
37And all the people in the region of the Gerasenes begged Jesus to go away and leave them alone, for a great wave of fear swept over them. So Jesus returned to the boat and left, crossing back to the other side of the lake.
38The man who had been freed from the demons begged to go with him. But Jesus sent him home, saying,
39No, go back to your family, and tell them everything God has done for you.' So he went all through the town proclaiming the great things Jesus had done for him.
40On the other side of the lake the crowds welcomed Jesus, because they had been waiting for him.
41Then a man named Jairus, a leader of the local synagogue, came and fell at Jesus’ feet, pleading with him to come home with him.
42His only daughter, who was about twelve years old, was dying. As Jesus went with him, he was surrounded by the crowds.
43A woman in the crowd had suffered for twelve years with constant bleeding, and she could find no cure.
44Coming up behind Jesus, she touched the fringe of his robe. Immediately, the bleeding stopped.
46But Jesus said, 'Someone deliberately touched me, for I felt healing power go out from me.'
47When the woman realized that she could not stay hidden, she began to tremble and fell to her knees in front of him. The whole crowd heard her explain why she had touched him and that she had been immediately healed.
