Chapter 9
18And it happened that while He was praying alone, the disciples were with Him, and He questioned them, saying, 'Who do the people say that I am?' 19They answered and said, 'John the Baptist, and others say Elijah; but others, that one of the prophets of old has risen.' 20And He said to them, 'But who do you say that I am?' And Peter answered and said, 'The Christ of God.' 21But He warned them and instructed them not to tell this to anyone, 22saying, 'The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed and be raised on the third day.'
23And He was saying to them all, 'If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow Me.
24For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake, this is the one who will save it.
25For what good does it do a person if he gains the whole world, but loses or forfeits himself?
26For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when He comes in His glory and the glory of the Father and the holy angels.
27But I say to you truthfully, there are some of those standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God.'
28About eight days after these sayings, He took along Peter, John, and James, and went up on the mountain to pray.
29And while He was praying, the appearance of His face became different, and His clothing became white and gleaming.
30And behold, two men were talking with Him; and they were Moses and Elijah,

21And he straitly charged them, and commanded them to tell no man that thing;
22Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day.
23And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
24For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.
25For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?
26For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels.
27But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God.
28And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray.
29And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering.
30And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias:

22saying, "It is necessary that the Son of Man suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and scribes, be killed, and be raised the third day."
23Then he said to them all, "If anyone wants to follow after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow me.
24For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life because of me will save it.
25For what does it benefit someone if he gains the whole world, and yet loses or forfeits himself?
26For whoever is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his glory and that of the Father and the holy angels.
27Truly I tell you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God."

20Then he asked them, 'But who do you say I am?' Peter replied, 'You are the Messiah sent from God!'
21Jesus warned his disciples not to tell anyone who he was.
22The Son of Man must suffer many terrible things,' he said. 'He will be rejected by the elders, the leading priests, and the teachers of religious law. He will be killed, but on the third day he will be raised from the dead.'
23Then he said to the crowd, 'If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me.
24If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.
25And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but are yourself lost or destroyed?
26If anyone is ashamed of me and my message, the Son of Man will be ashamed of that person when he returns in his glory and in the glory of the Father and the holy angels.
27I tell you the truth, some standing here right now will not die before they see the Kingdom of God.'

29As he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning.
30Two men, Moses and Elijah, appeared in glorious splendor, talking with Jesus.
