Chapter 11

25And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father who is in heaven will also forgive you for your offenses. 26[ But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father who is in heaven forgive your offenses.']
27And they *came again to Jerusalem. And as He was walking in the temple area, the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders *came to Him, 28and began saying to Him, 'By what authority are You doing these things, or who gave You this authority to do these things?' 29But Jesus said to them, 'I will ask you one question, and you answer Me, and then I will tell you by what authority I do these things. 30Was the baptism of John from heaven, or from men? Answer Me.' 31And they began considering the implications among themselves, saying, 'If we say, ‘From heaven,’ He will say, ‘Then why did you not believe him?’ 32But should we say, ‘From men’?'—they were afraid of the people, for they all considered John to have been a real prophet.

27And they come again to Jerusalem: and as he was walking in the temple, there come to him the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders, 28And say unto him, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority to do these things? 29And Jesus answered and said unto them, I will also ask of you one question, and answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things. 30The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men? answer me. 31And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then did ye not believe him?
32But if we shall say, Of men; they feared the people: for all men counted John, that he was a prophet indeed.

27They came again to Jerusalem. As he was walking in the temple, the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders came 28and asked him, "By what authority are you doing these things? Who gave you this authority to do these things?"
29Jesus said to them, "I will ask you one question; then answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things. 30Was John’s baptism from heaven or of human origin? Answer me."
31They discussed it among themselves: "If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say, ‘Then why didn’t you believe him?’ 32But if we say, ‘Of human origin’"—they were afraid of the crowd, because everyone thought that John was truly a prophet.

Chapter 11

25But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too. ' 26
27Again they entered Jerusalem. As Jesus was walking through the Temple area, the leading priests, the teachers of religious law, and the elders came up to him. 28They demanded, 'By what authority are you doing all these things? Who gave you the right to do them?'
29I’ll tell you by what authority I do these things if you answer one question,' Jesus replied. 30Did John’s authority to baptize come from heaven, or was it merely human? Answer me!'
31They talked it over among themselves. 'If we say it was from heaven, he will ask why we didn’t believe John. 32But do we dare say it was merely human?' For they were afraid of what the people would do, because everyone believed that John was a prophet.

27They arrived again in Jerusalem, and while Jesus was walking in the temple courts, the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders came to him. 28"By what authority are you doing these things?" they asked. "And who gave you authority to do this?"
29Jesus replied, "I will ask you one question. Answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things. 30John’s baptism—was it from heaven, or of human origin? Tell me!"
31They discussed it among themselves and said, "If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will ask, ‘Then why didn’t you believe him?’ 32But if we say, ‘Of human origin’ …" (They feared the people, for everyone held that John really was a prophet.)
