Mark 12:24-42
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 12
24Jesus said to them, 'Is this not the reason you are mistaken, that you do not understand the Scriptures nor the power of God? 25For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. 26But regarding the fact that the dead rise, have you not read in the book of Moses, in the passage about the burning bush, how God spoke to him, saying, ‘I AM THE God OF ABRAHAM, THE God OF ISAAC, AND THE God OF JACOB’? 27He is not the God of the dead, but of the living; you are greatly mistaken.'
28One of the scribes came up and heard them arguing, and recognizing that He had answered them well, asked Him, 'What commandment is the foremost of all?'
29Jesus answered, 'The foremost is, ‘HEAR, ISRAEL! THE Lord IS OUR God, THE Lord IS ONE;
30AND YOU SHALL LOVE THE Lord YOUR God WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH.’
31The second is this: ‘YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.'
32And the scribe said to Him, 'Well said, Teacher; You have truly stated that HE IS ONE, AND THERE IS NO OTHER BESIDES HIM;
33and to love Him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the strength, and to love one’s neighbor as oneself, is much more than all the burnt offerings and sacrifices.'
34When Jesus saw that he had answered intelligently, He said to him, 'You are not far from the kingdom of God.' And then, no one dared any longer to question Him.
38And in His teaching He was saying: 'Beware of the scribes who like to walk around in long robes, and like personal greetings in the marketplaces,
39and seats of honor in the synagogues, and places of honor at banquets,
40who devour widows’ houses, and for appearance’s sake offer long prayers. These will receive all the more condemnation.'
King James Version
Chapter 12
24And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God 25For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven. 26And as touching the dead, that they rise: have ye not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spake unto him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? 27He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: ye therefore do greatly err.
28And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all?
29And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:
30And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
31And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
32And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he:
33And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.
34And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question.
35And Jesus answered and said, while he taught in the temple, How say the scribes that Christ is the Son of David
36For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The Lord said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool.

Chapter 12
24Jesus spoke to them, "Isn’t this the reason why you’re mistaken: you don’t know the Scriptures or the power of God? 25For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage but are like angels in heaven. 26And as for the dead being raised—haven’t you read in the book of Moses, in the passage about the burning bush, how God said to him: I am the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob? 27He is not the God of the dead but of the living. You are badly mistaken."
29Jesus answered, "The most important is Listen, O Israel! The Lord our God, the Lord is one.
30Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.
31The second is, Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other command greater than these."
32Then the scribe said to him, "You are right, teacher. You have correctly said that he is one, and there is no one else except him.
33And to love him with all your heart, with all your understanding, and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself, is far more important than all the burnt offerings and sacrifices."
38He also said in his teaching, "Beware of the scribes, who want to go around in long robes and who want greetings in the marketplaces,
39the best seats in the synagogues, and the places of honor at banquets.
40They devour widows’ houses and say long prayers just for show. These will receive harsher judgment."

Chapter 12
24Jesus replied, 'Your mistake is that you don’t know the Scriptures, and you don’t know the power of God. 25For when the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage. In this respect they will be like the angels in heaven.
26But now, as to whether the dead will be raised — haven’t you ever read about this in the writings of Moses, in the story of the burning bush? Long after Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob had died, God said to Moses, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’
27So he is the God of the living, not the dead. You have made a serious error.'
29Jesus replied, 'The most important commandment is this: ‘Listen, O Israel! The Lord our God is the one and only Lord.
30And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’
31The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.'
32The teacher of religious law replied, 'Well said, Teacher. You have spoken the truth by saying that there is only one God and no other.
33And I know it is important to love him with all my heart and all my understanding and all my strength, and to love my neighbor as myself. This is more important than to offer all of the burnt offerings and sacrifices required in the law.'
38Jesus also taught: 'Beware of these teachers of religious law! For they like to parade around in flowing robes and receive respectful greetings as they walk in the marketplaces.
39And how they love the seats of honor in the synagogues and the head table at banquets.
40Yet they shamelessly cheat widows out of their property and then pretend to be pious by making long prayers in public. Because of this, they will be more severely punished.'

Chapter 12
24Jesus said to them, "Is this not the reason you are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God? 25For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. 26And as for the dead being raised, have you not read in the book of Moses, in the passage about the bush, how God spoke to him, saying, ‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? 27He is not God of the dead, but of the living. You are quite wrong."
28And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, "Which commandment is the most important of all?"
29Jesus answered, "The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.
30And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’
31The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these."
32And the scribe said to him, "You are right, Teacher. You have truly said that he is one, and there is no other besides him.
33And to love him with all the heart and with all the understanding and with all the strength, and to love one 's neighbor as oneself, is much more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices."
34And when Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God." And after that no one dared to ask him any more questions.
35And as Jesus taught in the temple, he said, "How can the scribes say that the Christ is the son of David?
36David himself, in the Holy Spirit, declared, "‘The Lord said to my Lord, "Sit at my right hand, until I put your enemies under your feet."’
38And in his teaching he said, "Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes and like greetings in the marketplaces
39and have the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at feasts,
40who devour widows ' houses and for a pretense make long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation."

Chapter 12
24Jesus replied, "Are you not in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God? 25When the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. 26Now about the dead rising—have you not read in the Book of Moses, in the account of the burning bush, how God said to him, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’ ? 27He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. You are badly mistaken!"
29"The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.
30Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’
31The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these."
32"Well said, teacher," the man replied. "You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him.
33To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices."
38As he taught, Jesus said, "Watch out for the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and be greeted with respect in the marketplaces,
39and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets.
40They devour widows’ houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. These men will be punished most severely."

Chapter 12
24Jesus answered and said to them, “Are you not therefore mistaken, because you do not know the Scriptures nor the power of God? 25For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. 26But concerning the dead, that they rise, have you not read in the book of Moses, in the burning bush passage, how God spoke to him, saying, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? 27He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living. You are therefore greatly mistaken.”
29Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.
30And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment.
31And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
32So the scribe said to Him, “Well said, Teacher. You have spoken the truth, for there is one God, and there is no other but He.
33And to love Him with all the heart, with all the understanding, with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love one’s neighbor as oneself, is more than all the whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.”
38Then He said to them in His teaching, “Beware of the scribes, who desire to go around in long robes, love greetings in the marketplaces,
39the best seats in the synagogues, and the best places at feasts,
40who devour widows’ houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. These will receive greater condemnation.”
