Mark 13:9-36
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 13
9But be on your guard; for they will hand you over to the courts, and you will be flogged in the synagogues, and you will stand before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them. 10And the gospel must first be preached to all the nations. 11And when they arrest you and hand you over, do not worry beforehand about what you are to say, but say whatever is given you at that time; for you are not the ones speaking, but it is the Holy Spirit. 12And brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and have them put to death. 13And you will be hated by everyone because of My name, but it is the one who has endured to the end who will be saved.
14Now when you see the ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION standing where it should not be— let the reader understand—then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains.
15Whoever is on the housetop must not go down, nor go in to get anything out of his house.
16And whoever is in the field must not turn back to get his cloak.
17But woe to those women who are pregnant, and to those who are nursing babies in those days!
18Moreover, pray that it will not happen in winter.
19For those days will be such a time of tribulation as has not occurred since the beginning of the creation which God created until now, and never will again.
20And if the Lord had not shortened those days, no life would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect, whom He chose, He shortened the days.
21And then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ’; or, ‘Look, there He is’; do not believe it;
22for false christs and false prophets will arise, and will provide signs and wonders, in order to mislead, if possible, the elect.
23But beware; I have told you everything in advance.
24But in those days, after that tribulation, THE SUN WILL BE DARKENED AND THE MOON WILL NOT GIVE ITS LIGHT,
25AND THE STARS WILL BE FALLING from heaven, and the powers that are in the heavens will be shaken.
26And then they will see THE SON OF MAN COMING IN CLOUDS with great power and glory.
27And then He will send forth the angels, and will gather together His elect from the four winds, from the end of the earth to the end of heaven.
28Now learn the parable from the fig tree: as soon as its branch has become tender and sprouts its leaves, you know that summer is near.
29So you too, when you see these things happening, recognize that He is near, right at the door.
30Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place.
31Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.
32But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.
33Watch out, stay alert; for you do not know when the appointed time is.
34It is like a man away on a journey, who upon leaving his house and putting his slaves in charge, assigning to each one his task, also commanded the doorkeeper to stay alert.
35Therefore, stay alert—for you do not know when the master of the house is coming, whether in the evening, at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning—
36so that he does not come suddenly and find you asleep.
King James Version
Chapter 13
9But take heed to yourselves: for they shall deliver you up to councils; and in the synagogues ye shall be beaten: and ye shall be brought before rulers and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them. 10And the gospel must first be published among all nations. 11But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost. 12Now the brother shall betray the brother to death, and the father the son; and children shall rise up against their parents, and shall cause them to be put to death. 13And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
14But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains:
15And let him that is on the housetop not go down into the house, neither enter therein, to take any thing out of his house:
16And let him that is in the field not turn back again for to take up his garment.
17But woe to them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!
18And pray ye that your flight be not in the winter.
19For in those days shall be affliction, such as was not from the beginning of the creation which God created unto this time, neither shall be.
20And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved: but for the elect's sake, whom he hath chosen, he hath shortened the days.
21And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here is Christ; or, lo, he is there; believe him not:
22For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.
23But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things.
24But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light,
25And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken.
26And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.
27And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.
28Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When her branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is near:
29So ye in like manner, when ye shall see these things come to pass, know that it is nigh, even at the doors.
30Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done.
31Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.
32But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.
33Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.
34For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch.
35Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning:
36Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping.

Chapter 13
9"But you, be on your guard! They will hand you over to local courts, and you will be flogged in the synagogues. You will stand before governors and kings because of me, as a witness to them. 10And it is necessary that the gospel be preached to all nations. 11So when they arrest you and hand you over, don’t worry beforehand what you will say, but say whatever is given to you at that time, for it isn’t you speaking, but the Holy Spirit.
12"Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child. Children will rise up against parents and have them put to death.
13You will be hated by everyone because of my name, but the one who endures to the end will be saved.
14"When you see the abomination of desolation standing where it should not be" (let the reader understand), "then those in Judea must flee to the mountains.
15A man on the housetop must not come down or go in to get anything out of his house,
16and a man in the field must not go back to get his coat.
17Woe to pregnant women and nursing mothers in those days!
18"Pray it won’t happen in winter.
19For those will be days of tribulation, the kind that hasn’t been from the beginning of creation until now and never will be again.
20If the Lord had not cut those days short, no one would be saved. But he cut those days short for the sake of the elect, whom he chose.
21"Then if anyone tells you, ‘See, here is the Messiah! See, there!’ do not believe it.
22For false messiahs and false prophets will arise and will perform signs and wonders to lead astray, if possible, the elect.
23And you must watch! I have told you everything in advance.
24"But in those days, after that tribulation: The sun will be darkened, and the moon will not shed its light;
25the stars will be falling from the sky, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken.
26Then they will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory.
27He will send out the angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven.
28"Learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its branch becomes tender and sprouts leaves, you know that summer is near.
29In the same way, when you see these things happening, recognize that he is near—at the door.
30"Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things take place.
31Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
34"It is like a man on a journey, who left his house, gave authority to his servants, gave each one his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to be alert.
35Therefore be alert, since you don’t know when the master of the house is coming—whether in the evening or at midnight or at the crowing of the rooster or early in the morning.
36Otherwise, when he comes suddenly he might find you sleeping.

Chapter 13
9When these things begin to happen, watch out! You will be handed over to the local councils and beaten in the synagogues. You will stand trial before governors and kings because you are my followers. But this will be your opportunity to tell them about me. 10For the Good News must first be preached to all nations. 11But when you are arrested and stand trial, don’t worry in advance about what to say. Just say what God tells you at that time, for it is not you who will be speaking, but the Holy Spirit.
12A brother will betray his brother to death, a father will betray his own child, and children will rebel against their parents and cause them to be killed.
13And everyone will hate you because you are my followers. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.
14The day is coming when you will see the sacrilegious object that causes desecration standing where he should not be.' (Reader, pay attention!) 'Then those in Judea must flee to the hills.
15A person out on the deck of a roof must not go down into the house to pack.
16A person out in the field must not return even to get a coat.
17How terrible it will be for pregnant women and for nursing mothers in those days.
18And pray that your flight will not be in winter.
19For there will be greater anguish in those days than at any time since God created the world. And it will never be so great again.
20In fact, unless the Lord shortens that time of calamity, not a single person will survive. But for the sake of his chosen ones he has shortened those days.
21Then if anyone tells you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah,’ or ‘There he is,’ don’t believe it.
22For false messiahs and false prophets will rise up and perform signs and wonders so as to deceive, if possible, even God’s chosen ones.
23Watch out! I have warned you about this ahead of time!
24At that time, after the anguish of those days, the sun will be darkened, the moon will give no light,
25the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken.
26Then everyone will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds with great power and glory.
27And he will send out his angels to gather his chosen ones from all over the world — from the farthest ends of the earth and heaven.
28Now learn a lesson from the fig tree. When its branches bud and its leaves begin to sprout, you know that summer is near.
29In the same way, when you see all these things taking place, you can know that his return is very near, right at the door.
30I tell you the truth, this generation will not pass from the scene before all these things take place.
31Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear.
32However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows.
33And since you don’t know when that time will come, be on guard! Stay alert !
34The coming of the Son of Man can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. When he left home, he gave each of his slaves instructions about the work they were to do, and he told the gatekeeper to watch for his return.
35You, too, must keep watch! For you don’t know when the master of the household will return — in the evening, at midnight, before dawn, or at daybreak.
36Don’t let him find you sleeping when he arrives without warning.

16Let no one in the field go back to get their cloak.
17How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers!
