Mark 14:4-62

Chapter 14
4But there were some indignantly remarking to one another, 'Why has this perfume been wasted? 5For this perfume could have been sold for over three hundred denarii, and the money given to the poor.' And they were scolding her. 6But Jesus said, 'Leave her alone! Why are you bothering her? She has done a good deed for Me. 7For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you want, you can do good to them; but you do not always have Me. 8She has done what she could; she has anointed My body beforehand for the burial. 9Truly I say to you, wherever the gospel is preached in the entire world, what this woman has done will also be told in memory of her.'
10Then Judas Iscariot, who was one of the twelve, went off to the chief priests in order to betray Him to them.
11They were delighted when they heard this, and promised to give him money. And he began seeking how to betray Him at an opportune time.
12On the first day of Unleavened Bread, when the Passover lamb was being sacrificed, His disciples *said to Him, 'Where do You want us to go and prepare for You to eat the Passover?'
13And He *sent two of His disciples and *said to them, 'Go into the city, and a man carrying a pitcher of water will meet you; follow him;
14and wherever he enters, say to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher says, 'Where is My guest room in which I may eat the Passover with My disciples?'?’
15And he himself will show you a large upstairs room furnished and ready; prepare for us there.'
16The disciples left and came to the city, and found everything just as He had told them; and they prepared the Passover.
17When it was evening He *came with the twelve.
18And as they were reclining at the table and eating, Jesus said, 'Truly I say to you that one of you will betray Me— one who is eating with Me.'
19They began to be grieved and to say to Him one by one, 'Surely not I?'
20But He said to them, 'It is one of the twelve, the one who dips bread with Me in the bowl.
21For the Son of Man is going away just as it is written about Him; but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good for that man if he had not been born.'
22While they were eating, He took some bread, and after a blessing He broke it, and gave it to them, and said, 'Take it; this is My body.'
23And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, and they all drank from it.
24And He said to them, 'This is My blood of the covenant, which is being poured out for many.
25Truly I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine again, until that day when I drink it, new, in the kingdom of God.'
27And Jesus *said to them, 'You will all fall away, because it is written: ‘I WILL STRIKE THE SHEPHERD, AND THE SHEEP WILL BE SCATTERED.’
28But after I am raised, I will go ahead of you to Galilee.'
29But Peter said to Him, 'Even if they all fall away, yet I will not!'
30And Jesus *said to him, 'Truly I say to you, that this very night, before a rooster crows twice, you yourself will deny Me three times.'
31But Peter repeatedly said insistently, 'Even if I have to die with You, I will not deny You!' And they all were saying the same thing as well.
32They *came to a place named Gethsemane; and He *said to His disciples, 'Sit here until I have prayed.'
33And He *took with Him Peter, James, and John, and began to be very distressed and troubled.
34And He *said to them, 'My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death; remain here and keep watch.'
35And He went a little beyond them, and fell to the ground and began praying that if it were possible, the hour might pass Him by.
36And He was saying, 'Abba! Father! All things are possible for You; remove this cup from Me; yet not what I will, but what You will.'
37And He *came and *found them sleeping, and *said to Peter, 'Simon, are you asleep? Could you not keep watch for one hour?
38Keep watching and praying, so that you will not come into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.'
39And again He went away and prayed, saying the same words.
40And again He came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy; and they did not know what to say in reply to Him.
41And He *came the third time, and *said to them, 'Are you still sleeping and resting? That is enough. The hour has come; behold, the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners.
42Get up, let’s go; behold, the one who is betraying Me is near!'
43And immediately, while He was still speaking, Judas, one of the twelve, *came up, accompanied by a crowd with swords and clubs who were from the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders.
44Now he who was betraying Him had given them a signal, saying, 'Whomever I kiss, He is the one; arrest Him and lead Him away under guard.'
45And after coming, Judas immediately went to Him and *said, 'Rabbi!' and kissed Him.
46And they laid hands on Him and arrested Him.
47But one of those who stood by drew his sword, and struck the slave of the high priest and cut off his ear.
48And Jesus said to them, 'Have you come out with swords and clubs to arrest Me, as you would against a man inciting a revolt?
49Every day I was with you within the temple grounds teaching, and you did not arrest Me; but this has taken place so that the Scriptures will be fulfilled.'
50And His disciples all left Him and fled.
51A young man was following Him, wearing nothing but a linen sheet over his naked body; and they *seized him.
52But he pulled free of the linen sheet and escaped naked.
53They led Jesus away to the high priest; and all the chief priests, the elders, and the scribes *gathered together.
54And Peter had followed Him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest; and he was sitting with the officers and warming himself at the fire.
55Now the chief priests and the entire Council were trying to obtain testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, and they were not finding any.
56For many people were giving false testimony against Him, and so their testimonies were not consistent.
57And then some stood up and began giving false testimony against Him, saying,
58We heard Him say, ‘I will destroy this temple that was made by hands, and in three days I will build another, made without hands.’?'
59And not even in this respect was their testimony consistent.
60And then the high priest stood up and came forward and questioned Jesus, saying, 'Do You not offer any answer for what these men are testifying against You?'
61But He kept silent and did not offer any answer. Again the high priest was questioning Him, and *said to Him, 'Are You the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?'
62And Jesus said, 'I am; and you shall see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.'

Chapter 14
4And there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made? 5For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her. 6And Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her she hath wrought a good work on me. 7For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always. 8She hath done what she could: she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying. 9Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.
10And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went unto the chief priests, to betray him unto them.
11And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. And he sought how he might conveniently betray him.
12And the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the passover, his disciples said unto him, Where wilt thou that we go and prepare that thou mayest eat the passover?
13And he sendeth forth two of his disciples, and saith unto them, Go ye into the city, and there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water: follow him.
14And wheresoever he shall go in, say ye to the goodman of the house, The Master saith, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?
15And he will shew you a large upper room furnished and prepared: there make ready for us.
16And his disciples went forth, and came into the city, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.
17And in the evening he cometh with the twelve.
18And as they sat and did eat, Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, One of you which eateth with me shall betray me.
19And they began to be sorrowful, and to say unto him one by one, Is it I? and another said, Is it I?
20And he answered and said unto them, It is one of the twelve, that dippeth with me in the dish.
22And as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body.
23And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them: and they all drank of it.
24And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many.
25Verily I say unto you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until that day that I drink it new in the kingdom of God.
26And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.
27And Jesus saith unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered.
28But after that I am risen, I will go before you into Galilee.
29But Peter said unto him, Although all shall be offended, yet will not I.
30And Jesus saith unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this day, even in this night, before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice.
32And they came to a place which was named Gethsemane: and he saith to his disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray.
33And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy;
34And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch.
35And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.
36And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.
37And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou couldest not thou watch one hour
38Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.
39And again he went away, and prayed, and spake the same words.
40And when he returned, he found them asleep again, (for their eyes were heavy,) neither wist they what to answer him.
41And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
43And immediately, while he yet spake, cometh Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders.
44And he that betrayed him had given them a token, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he; take him, and lead him away safely.
45And as soon as he was come, he goeth straightway to him, and saith, Master, master; and kissed him.
46And they laid their hands on him, and took him.
47And one of them that stood by drew a sword, and smote a servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.
48And Jesus answered and said unto them, Are ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and with staves to take me
49I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye took me not: but the scriptures must be fulfilled.
51And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him:
52And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked.
53And they led Jesus away to the high priest: and with him were assembled all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes.
54And Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest: and he sat with the servants, and warmed himself at the fire.
55And the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found none.
56For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together.
57And there arose certain, and bare false witness against him, saying,
58We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.
59But neither so did their witness agree together.
60And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?
61But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?
62And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

39Once again he went away and prayed, saying the same thing.
40And again he came and found them sleeping, because they could not keep their eyes open. They did not know what to say to him.
41Then he came a third time and said to them, "Are you still sleeping and resting? Enough! The time has come. See, the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
42Get up; let’s go. See, my betrayer is near."
43While he was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, suddenly arrived. With him was a mob, with swords and clubs, from the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders.
44His betrayer had given them a signal. "The one I kiss," he said, "he’s the one; arrest him and take him away under guard."

50Then they all deserted him and ran away.
51Now a certain young man, wearing nothing but a linen cloth, was following him. They caught hold of him,

55The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for testimony against Jesus to put him to death, but they could not find any.
56For many were giving false testimony against him, and the testimonies did not agree.
57Some stood up and gave false testimony against him, stating,
58"We heard him say, ‘I will destroy this temple made with human hands, and in three days I will build another not made by hands.’"
59Yet their testimony did not agree even on this.

Chapter 14
4Some of those at the table were indignant. 'Why waste such expensive perfume?' they asked. 5It could have been sold for a year’s wages and the money given to the poor!' So they scolded her harshly.
6But Jesus replied, 'Leave her alone. Why criticize her for doing such a good thing to me?
7You will always have the poor among you, and you can help them whenever you want to. But you will not always have me.
8She has done what she could and has anointed my body for burial ahead of time.
9I tell you the truth, wherever the Good News is preached throughout the world, this woman’s deed will be remembered and discussed.'
10Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve disciples, went to the leading priests to arrange to betray Jesus to them.
11They were delighted when they heard why he had come, and they promised to give him money. So he began looking for an opportunity to betray Jesus.
13So Jesus sent two of them into Jerusalem with these instructions: 'As you go into the city, a man carrying a pitcher of water will meet you. Follow him.
14At the house he enters, say to the owner, ‘The Teacher asks: Where is the guest room where I can eat the Passover meal with my disciples?’
15He will take you upstairs to a large room that is already set up. That is where you should prepare our meal.'
16So the two disciples went into the city and found everything just as Jesus had said, and they prepared the Passover meal there.
17In the evening Jesus arrived with the Twelve.
18As they were at the table eating, Jesus said, 'I tell you the truth, one of you eating with me here will betray me.'
20He replied, 'It is one of you twelve who is eating from this bowl with me.
21For the Son of Man must die, as the Scriptures declared long ago. But how terrible it will be for the one who betrays him. It would be far better for that man if he had never been born!'
23And he took a cup of wine and gave thanks to God for it. He gave it to them, and they all drank from it.
24And he said to them, 'This is my blood, which confirms the covenant between God and his people. It is poured out as a sacrifice for many.
25I tell you the truth, I will not drink wine again until the day I drink it new in the Kingdom of God.'
32They went to the olive grove called Gethsemane, and Jesus said, 'Sit here while I go and pray.'
33He took Peter, James, and John with him, and he became deeply troubled and distressed.
34He told them, 'My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.'
35He went on a little farther and fell to the ground. He prayed that, if it were possible, the awful hour awaiting him might pass him by.
36Abba, Father,' he cried out, 'everything is possible for you. Please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.'
37Then he returned and found the disciples asleep. He said to Peter, 'Simon, are you asleep? Couldn’t you watch with me even one hour?
38Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak.'
39Then Jesus left them again and prayed the same prayer as before.
40When he returned to them again, he found them sleeping, for they couldn’t keep their eyes open. And they didn’t know what to say.
41When he returned to them the third time, he said, 'Go ahead and sleep. Have your rest. But no — the time has come. The Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
42Up, let’s be going. Look, my betrayer is here!'
43And immediately, even as Jesus said this, Judas, one of the twelve disciples, arrived with a crowd of men armed with swords and clubs. They had been sent by the leading priests, the teachers of religious law, and the elders.
44The traitor, Judas, had given them a prearranged signal: 'You will know which one to arrest when I greet him with a kiss. Then you can take him away under guard.'
45As soon as they arrived, Judas walked up to Jesus. 'Rabbi!' he exclaimed, and gave him the kiss.
46Then the others grabbed Jesus and arrested him.
47But one of the men with Jesus pulled out his sword and struck the high priest’s slave, slashing off his ear.
48Jesus asked them, 'Am I some dangerous revolutionary, that you come with swords and clubs to arrest me?
49Why didn’t you arrest me in the Temple? I was there among you teaching every day. But these things are happening to fulfill what the Scriptures say about me.'
50Then all his disciples deserted him and ran away.
51One young man following behind was clothed only in a long linen shirt. When the mob tried to grab him,
52he slipped out of his shirt and ran away naked.
53They took Jesus to the high priest’s home where the leading priests, the elders, and the teachers of religious law had gathered.
54Meanwhile, Peter followed him at a distance and went right into the high priest’s courtyard. There he sat with the guards, warming himself by the fire.
55Inside, the leading priests and the entire high council were trying to find evidence against Jesus, so they could put him to death. But they couldn’t find any.
56Many false witnesses spoke against him, but they contradicted each other.
57Finally, some men stood up and gave this false testimony:
58We heard him say, ‘I will destroy this Temple made with human hands, and in three days I will build another, made without human hands.’'
59But even then they didn’t get their stories straight!

44Now the betrayer had given them a sign, saying, "The one I will kiss is the man. Seize him and lead him away under guard."
45And when he came, he went up to him at once and said, "Rabbi!" And he kissed him.
46And they laid hands on him and seized him.
47But one of those who stood by drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his ear.
48And Jesus said to them, "Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to capture me?
49Day after day I was with you in the temple teaching, and you did not seize me. But let the Scriptures be fulfilled."
50And they all left him and fled.
51And a young man followed him, with nothing but a linen cloth about his body. And they seized him,

60And the high priest stood up in the midst and asked Jesus, "Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against you?"
61But he remained silent and made no answer. Again the high priest asked him, "Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?"

4Some of those present were saying indignantly to one another, "Why this waste of perfume? 5It could have been sold for more than a year’s wages and the money given to the poor." And they rebuked her harshly.
6"Leave her alone," said Jesus. "Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me.
7The poor you will always have with you, and you can help them any time you want. But you will not always have me.
8She did what she could. She poured perfume on my body beforehand to prepare for my burial.
9Truly I tell you, wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her."
10Then Judas Iscariot, one of the Twelve, went to the chief priests to betray Jesus to them.
11They were delighted to hear this and promised to give him money. So he watched for an opportunity to hand him over.
13So he sent two of his disciples, telling them, "Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him.
14Say to the owner of the house he enters, ‘The Teacher asks: Where is my guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’
15He will show you a large room upstairs, furnished and ready. Make preparations for us there."
17When evening came, Jesus arrived with the Twelve.
18While they were reclining at the table eating, he said, "Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me—one who is eating with me."
20"It is one of the Twelve," he replied, "one who dips bread into the bowl with me.
21The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born."
24"This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many," he said to them.
25"Truly I tell you, I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God."
32They went to a place called Gethsemane, and Jesus said to his disciples, "Sit here while I pray."
33He took Peter, James and John along with him, and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled.
34"My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death," he said to them. "Stay here and keep watch."
35Going a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed that if possible the hour might pass from him.
36"Abba, Father," he said, "everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will."
37Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. "Simon," he said to Peter, "are you asleep? Couldn’t you keep watch for one hour?
38Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak."
39Once more he went away and prayed the same thing.
40When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. They did not know what to say to him.
41Returning the third time, he said to them, "Are you still sleeping and resting? Enough! The hour has come. Look, the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners.
42Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!"
44Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: "The one I kiss is the man; arrest him and lead him away under guard."
45Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, "Rabbi!" and kissed him.
46The men seized Jesus and arrested him.
47Then one of those standing near drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.
48"Am I leading a rebellion," said Jesus, "that you have come out with swords and clubs to capture me?
49Every day I was with you, teaching in the temple courts, and you did not arrest me. But the Scriptures must be fulfilled."
50Then everyone deserted him and fled.
51A young man, wearing nothing but a linen garment, was following Jesus. When they seized him,
52he fled naked, leaving his garment behind.
53They took Jesus to the high priest, and all the chief priests, the elders and the teachers of the law came together.
54Peter followed him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest. There he sat with the guards and warmed himself at the fire.
55The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death, but they did not find any.
56Many testified falsely against him, but their statements did not agree.

Chapter 14
4But there were some who were indignant among themselves, and said, “Why was this fragrant oil wasted? 5For it might have been sold for more than three hundred denarii and given to the poor.” And they criticized her sharply.
6But Jesus said, “Let her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a good work for Me.
7For you have the poor with you always, and whenever you wish you may do them good; but Me you do not have always.
8She has done what she could. She has come beforehand to anoint My body for burial.
9Assuredly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her.”
10Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went to the chief priests to betray Him to them.
11And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. So he sought how he might conveniently betray Him.
13And He sent out two of His disciples and said to them, “Go into the city, and a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him.
14Wherever he goes in, say to the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says, “Where is the guest room in which I may eat the Passover with My disciples?” ’
15Then he will show you a large upper room, furnished and prepared; there make ready for us.”
17In the evening He came with the twelve.
18Now as they sat and ate, Jesus said, “Assuredly, I say to you, one of you who eats with Me will betray Me.”
20He answered and said to them, “ It is one of the twelve, who dips with Me in the dish.
21The Son of Man indeed goes just as it is written of Him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good for that man if he had never been born.”
23Then He took the cup, and when He had given thanks He gave it to them, and they all drank from it.
24And He said to them, “This is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many.
25Assuredly, I say to you, I will no longer drink of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.”
32Then they came to a place which was named Gethsemane; and He said to His disciples, “Sit here while I pray.”
33And He took Peter, James, and John with Him, and He began to be troubled and deeply distressed.
34Then He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch.”
35He went a little farther, and fell on the ground, and prayed that if it were possible, the hour might pass from Him.
36And He said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for You. Take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will.”
37Then He came and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “Simon, are you sleeping? Could you not watch one hour?
38Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
39Again He went away and prayed, and spoke the same words.
40And when He returned, He found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy; and they did not know what to answer Him.
41Then He came the third time and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? It is enough! The hour has come; behold, the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners.
42Rise, let us be going. See, My betrayer is at hand.”
43And immediately, while He was still speaking, Judas, one of the twelve, with a great multitude with swords and clubs, came from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders.
44Now His betrayer had given them a signal, saying, “Whomever I kiss, He is the One; seize Him and lead Him away safely.”
46Then they laid their hands on Him and took Him.
47And one of those who stood by drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.
48Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Have you come out, as against a robber, with swords and clubs to take Me?
49I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and you did not seize Me. But the Scriptures must be fulfilled.”
51Now a certain young man followed Him, having a linen cloth thrown around his naked body. And the young men laid hold of him,
52and he left the linen cloth and fled from them naked.
53And they led Jesus away to the high priest; and with him were assembled all the chief priests, the elders, and the scribes.
54But Peter followed Him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest. And he sat with the servants and warmed himself at the fire.
55Now the chief priests and all the council sought testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, but found none.
56For many bore false witness against Him, but their testimonies did not agree.
