New American Standard Bible
Chapter 15
8And the crowd went up and began asking Pilate to do as he had been accustomed to do for them. 9Pilate answered them, saying, 'Do you want me to release for you the King of the Jews?' 10For he was aware that the chief priests had handed Him over because of envy. 11But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to ask him to release Barabbas for them instead. 12And responding again, Pilate said to them, 'Then what shall I do with Him whom you call the King of the Jews?' 13They shouted back, 'Crucify Him!' 14But Pilate said to them, 'Why, what evil has He done?' But they shouted all the more, 'Crucify Him!' 15Intent on satisfying the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas for them, and after having Jesus flogged, he handed Him over to be crucified.
16Now the soldiers took Him away into the palace (that is, the Praetorium), and they *called together the whole Roman cohort.
17And they *dressed Him in purple, and after twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on Him;
18and they began saluting Him: 'Hail, King of the Jews!'
19And they repeatedly beat His head with a reed and spit on Him, and kneeling, they bowed down before Him.
20And after they had mocked Him, they took the purple cloak off Him and put His own garments on Him. And they *led Him out to crucify Him.
22Then they *brought Him to the place Golgotha, which is translated, Place of a Skull.
23And they tried to give Him wine mixed with myrrh; but He did not take it.
24And they *crucified Him, and *divided up His garments among themselves, casting lots for them to decide what each man would take.
25Now it was the third hour when they crucified Him.
26The inscription of the charge against Him read, 'THE KING OF THE JEWS.'
27And they *crucified two rebels with Him, one on His right and one on His left.
28
29Those passing by were hurling abuse at Him, shaking their heads and saying, 'Ha! You who are going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days,
30save Yourself by coming down from the cross!'
31In the same way the chief priests also, along with the scribes, were mocking Him among themselves and saying, 'He saved others; He cannot save Himself!

Chapter 15
8And the multitude crying aloud began to desire him to do as he had ever done unto them. 9But Pilate answered them, saying, Will ye that I release unto you the King of the Jews? 10For he knew that the chief priests had delivered him for envy.
11But the chief priests moved the people, that he should rather release Barabbas unto them.
12And Pilate answered and said again unto them, What will ye then that I shall do unto him whom ye call the King of the Jews?
13And they cried out again, Crucify him.
14Then Pilate said unto them, Why, what evil hath he done? And they cried out the more exceedingly, Crucify him.
15And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified.
16And the soldiers led him away into the hall, called Praetorium; and they call together the whole band.
17And they clothed him with purple, and platted a crown of thorns, and put it about his head,
18And began to salute him, Hail, King of the Jews!
19And they smote him on the head with a reed, and did spit upon him, and bowing their knees worshipped him.
20And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple from him, and put his own clothes on him, and led him out to crucify him.
21And they compel one Simon a Cyrenian, who passed by, coming out of the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to bear his cross.
22And they bring him unto the place Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, The place of a skull.
23And they gave him to drink wine mingled with myrrh: but he received it not.
24And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments, casting lots upon them, what every man should take.
25And it was the third hour, and they crucified him.
26And the superscription of his accusation was written over, THE KING OF THE JEWS.
27And with him they crucify two thieves; the one on his right hand, and the other on his left.
28And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors.
29And they that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads, and saying, Ah, thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days,
30Save thyself, and come down from the cross.
31Likewise also the chief priests mocking said among themselves with the scribes, He saved others; himself he cannot save.

Chapter 15
8The crowd came up and began to ask Pilate to do for them as was his custom. 9Pilate answered them, "Do you want me to release the King of the Jews for you?" 10For he knew it was because of envy that the chief priests had handed him over. 11But the chief priests stirred up the crowd so that he would release Barabbas to them instead. 12Pilate asked them again, "Then what do you want me to do with the one you call the King of the Jews?"
16The soldiers led him away into the palace (that is, the governor’s residence ) and called the whole company together.
17They dressed him in a purple robe, twisted together a crown of thorns, and put it on him.
18And they began to salute him, "Hail, King of the Jews!"
19They were hitting him on the head with a stick and spitting on him. Getting down on their knees, they were paying him homage.
20After they had mocked him, they stripped him of the purple robe and put his clothes on him. They led him out to crucify him.
21They forced a man coming in from the country, who was passing by, to carry Jesus’s cross. He was Simon of Cyrene, the father of Alexander and Rufus.
22They brought Jesus to the place called Golgotha (which means Place of the Skull ).
23They tried to give him wine mixed with myrrh, but he did not take it.
24Then they crucified him and divided his clothes, casting lots for them to decide what each would get.
25Now it was nine in the morning when they crucified him.
26The inscription of the charge written against him was: THE KING OF THE JEWS.
27They crucified two criminals with him, one on his right and one on his left.
28
29Those who passed by were yelling insults at him, shaking their heads, and saying, "Ha! The one who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days,
30save yourself by coming down from the cross!"
31In the same way, the chief priests with the scribes were mocking him among themselves and saying, "He saved others, but he cannot save himself!
New Living Translation
9Would you like me to release to you this ‘King of the Jews’?' Pilate asked.
10(For he realized by now that the leading priests had arrested Jesus out of envy.)
11But at this point the leading priests stirred up the crowd to demand the release of Barabbas instead of Jesus.
12Pilate asked them, 'Then what should I do with this man you call the king of the Jews?'
16The soldiers took Jesus into the courtyard of the governor’s headquarters (called the Praetorium) and called out the entire regiment.
17They dressed him in a purple robe, and they wove thorn branches into a crown and put it on his head.
18Then they saluted him and taunted, 'Hail! King of the Jews!'
19And they struck him on the head with a reed stick, spit on him, and dropped to their knees in mock worship.
20When they were finally tired of mocking him, they took off the purple robe and put his own clothes on him again. Then they led him away to be crucified.
21A passerby named Simon, who was from Cyrene, was coming in from the countryside just then, and the soldiers forced him to carry Jesus’ cross. (Simon was the father of Alexander and Rufus.)
22And they brought Jesus to a place called Golgotha (which means 'Place of the Skull').
23They offered him wine drugged with myrrh, but he refused it.
24Then the soldiers nailed him to the cross. They divided his clothes and threw dice to decide who would get each piece.
25It was nine o’clock in the morning when they crucified him.
26A sign announced the charge against him. It read, 'The King of the Jews.'
27Two revolutionaries were crucified with him, one on his right and one on his left.
