Matthew 10:27-38
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 10
27What I tell you in the darkness, tell in the light; and what you hear whispered in your ear, proclaim on the housetops. 28And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. 29Are two sparrows not sold for an assarion? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. 30But even the hairs of your head are all counted. 31So do not fear; you are more valuable than a great number of sparrows.
32Therefore, everyone who confesses Me before people, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven.
33But whoever denies Me before people, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven.
King James Version
Chapter 10
27What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops. 28And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. 29Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. 30But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.
32Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.
33But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 10
27What I tell you in the dark, speak in the light. What you hear in a whisper, proclaim on the housetops. 28Don’t fear those who kill the body but are not able to kill the soul; rather, fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. 29Aren’t two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father’s consent. 30But even the hairs of your head have all been counted. 31So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
32"Therefore, everyone who will acknowledge me before others, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven.
33But whoever denies me before others, I will also deny him before my Father in heaven.
34Don’t assume that I came to bring peace on the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.
New Living Translation
28Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell.
29What is the price of two sparrows — one copper coin ? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it.
30And the very hairs on your head are all numbered.
31So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.
32Everyone who acknowledges me publicly here on earth, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven.
33But everyone who denies me here on earth, I will also deny before my Father in heaven.
English Standard Version
Chapter 10
27What I tell you in the dark, say in the light, and what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops. 28And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. 29Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. 30But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. 31Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. 32So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven, 33but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.
34"Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword.
35For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.
36And a person's enemies will be those of his own household.
37Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
38And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me.
New International Version
Chapter 10
27What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs. 28Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. 29Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. 30And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
32"Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven.
33But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.
New King James Version
Chapter 10
27“Whatever I tell you in the dark, speak in the light; and what you hear in the ear, preach on the housetops. 28And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. 29Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. 30But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.
32“Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven.
33But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.
34“Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword.
35For I have come to ‘set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law’;
36and ‘a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.’
37He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.
38And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.
