Chapter 15

15Peter said to Him, 'Explain the parable to us.' 16Jesus said, 'Are you also still lacking in understanding? 17Do you not understand that everything that goes into the mouth passes into the stomach, and is eliminated? 18But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and those things defile the person. 19For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, acts of adultery, other immoral sexual acts, thefts, false testimonies, and slanderous statements. 20These are the things that defile the person; but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile the person.'
21Jesus went away from there, and withdrew into the region of Tyre and Sidon. 22And a Canaanite woman from that region came out and began to cry out, saying, 'Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David; my daughter is severely demon-possessed.' 23But He did not answer her with even a word. And His disciples came up and urged Him, saying, 'Send her away, because she keeps shouting at us!' 24But He answered and said, 'I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.' 25But she came and began to bow down before Him, saying, 'Lord, help me!' 26Yet He answered and said, 'It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.' 27And she said, 'Yes, Lord; but please help, for even the dogs feed on the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.' 28Then Jesus said to her, 'O woman, your faith is great; it shall be done for you as you desire.' And her daughter was healed at once.

15Then answered Peter and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable. 16And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding 17Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught? 18But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. 19For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: 20These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.
21Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon. 22And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil. 23But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us. 24But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 25Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. 26But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs. 27And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table. 28Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

16"Do you still lack understanding?" he asked. 17"Don’t you realize that whatever goes into the mouth passes into the stomach and is eliminated? 18But what comes out of the mouth comes from the heart, and this defiles a person. 19For from the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, sexual immoralities, thefts, false testimonies, slander. 20These are the things that defile a person; but eating with unwashed hands does not defile a person."
21When Jesus left there, he withdrew to the area of Tyre and Sidon. 22Just then a Canaanite woman from that region came and kept crying out, "Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely tormented by a demon."
23Jesus did not say a word to her. His disciples approached him and urged him, "Send her away because she’s crying out after us."
24He replied, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel."
25But she came, knelt before him, and said, "Lord, help me!"
26He answered, "It isn’t right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs."
27"Yes, Lord," she said, "yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table."
28Then Jesus replied to her, "Woman, your faith is great. Let it be done for you as you want." And from that moment her daughter was healed.

Chapter 15

15Then Peter said to Jesus, 'Explain to us the parable that says people aren’t defiled by what they eat.'
16Don’t you understand yet?' Jesus asked. 17Anything you eat passes through the stomach and then goes into the sewer. 18But the words you speak come from the heart — that’s what defiles you. 19For from the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, all sexual immorality, theft, lying, and slander. 20These are what defile you. Eating with unwashed hands will never defile you.'
21Then Jesus left Galilee and went north to the region of Tyre and Sidon. 22A Gentile woman who lived there came to him, pleading, 'Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! For my daughter is possessed by a demon that torments her severely.'
23But Jesus gave her no reply, not even a word. Then his disciples urged him to send her away. 'Tell her to go away,' they said. 'She is bothering us with all her begging.'
24Then Jesus said to the woman, 'I was sent only to help God’s lost sheep — the people of Israel.'
25But she came and worshiped him, pleading again, 'Lord, help me!'
26Jesus responded, 'It isn’t right to take food from the children and throw it to the dogs.'
27She replied, 'That’s true, Lord, but even dogs are allowed to eat the scraps that fall beneath their masters’ table.'
28Dear woman,' Jesus said to her, 'your faith is great. Your request is granted.' And her daughter was instantly healed.

Jesus asked them. 17"Don’t you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? 18But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them. 19For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. 20These are what defile a person; but eating with unwashed hands does not defile them."
21Leaving that place, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. 22A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, "Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly."
23Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, "Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us."
24He answered, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel."
25The woman came and knelt before him. "Lord, help me!" she said.
26He replied, "It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs."
27"Yes it is, Lord," she said. "Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table."
28Then Jesus said to her, "Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted." And her daughter was healed at that moment.
