Matthew 17:1-13
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 17
1Six days later, Jesus *took with Him Peter and James, and his brother John, and *led them up on a high mountain by themselves. 2And He was transfigured before them; and His face shone like the sun, and His garments became as white as light. 3And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him. 4Peter responded and said to Jesus, 'Lord, it is good that we are here. If You want, I will make three tabernacles here: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.' 5While he was still speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice from the cloud said, 'This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to Him!' 6When the disciples heard this, they fell face down to the ground and were terrified. 7And Jesus came to them and touched them and said, 'Get up, and do not be afraid.' 8And raising their eyes, they saw no one except Jesus Himself alone.
9When they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, 'Tell the vision to no one until the Son of Man has risen from the dead.'
10And His disciples asked Him, 'Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?'
11And He answered and said, 'Elijah is coming and will restore all things;
12but I say to you that Elijah already came, and they did not recognize him, but did to him whatever they wanted. So also the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands.'
13Then the disciples understood that He had spoken to them about John the Baptist.

1And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, 2And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. 3And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him. 4Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. 5While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. 6And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid. 7And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid. 8And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only.
9And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead.
10And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come?
11And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things.

Chapter 17
1After six days Jesus took Peter, James, and his brother John and led them up on a high mountain by themselves. 2He was transfigured in front of them, and his face shone like the sun; his clothes became as white as the light. 3Suddenly, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with him. 4Then Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it’s good for us to be here. I will set up three shelters here: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah."
5While he was still speaking, suddenly a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said: "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased. Listen to him!"
6When the disciples heard this, they fell facedown and were terrified.
7Jesus came up, touched them, and said, "Get up; don’t be afraid."
8When they looked up they saw no one except Jesus alone.
11"Elijah is coming and will restore everything," he replied.
12"But I tell you: Elijah has already come, and they didn’t recognize him. On the contrary, they did whatever they pleased to him. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands."
13Then the disciples understood that he had spoken to them about John the Baptist.

Chapter 17
1Six days later Jesus took Peter and the two brothers, James and John, and led them up a high mountain to be alone. 2As the men watched, Jesus’ appearance was transformed so that his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as light. 3Suddenly, Moses and Elijah appeared and began talking with Jesus.
5But even as he spoke, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, 'This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy. Listen to him.'
6The disciples were terrified and fell face down on the ground.
7Then Jesus came over and touched them. 'Get up,' he said. 'Don’t be afraid.'
8And when they looked up, Moses and Elijah were gone, and they saw only Jesus.
11Jesus replied, 'Elijah is indeed coming first to get everything ready.
12But I tell you, Elijah has already come, but he wasn’t recognized, and they chose to abuse him. And in the same way they will also make the Son of Man suffer.'
13Then the disciples realized he was talking about John the Baptist.
