Matthew 19:5-17
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 19
5and said, ‘FOR THIS REASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND HIS MOTHER AND BE JOINED TO HIS WIFE, AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH’? 6So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, no person is to separate.' 7They *said to Him, 'Why, then, did Moses command to GIVE her a certificate of divorce and send her away?' 8He *said to them, 'Because of your hardness of heart Moses permitted you to divorce your wives; but from the beginning it has not been this way. 9And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery .'
10The disciples *said to Him, 'If the relationship of the man with his wife is like this, it is better not to marry.'
11But He said to them, 'Not all men can accept this statement, but only those to whom it has been given.
12For there are eunuchs who were born that way from their mother’s womb; and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by people; and there are also eunuchs who made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. The one who is able to accept this, let him accept it.'
13Then some children were brought to Him so that He would lay His hands on them and pray; and the disciples rebuked them.
14But Jesus said, 'Leave the children alone, and do not forbid them to come to Me; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.'
15After laying His hands on them, He departed from there.
King James Version
Chapter 19
5And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? 6Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. 7They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away? 8He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so. 9And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery. 10His disciples say unto him, If the case of the man be so with his wife, it is not good to marry. 11But he said unto them, All men cannot receive this saying, save they to whom it is given. 12For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother's womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.
13Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them.
14But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.
15And he laid his hands on them, and departed thence.

Chapter 19
5and he also said, "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two will become one flesh? 6So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, let no one separate."
8He told them, "Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because of the hardness of your hearts, but it was not like that from the beginning.
9I tell you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another commits adultery."
11He responded, "Not everyone can accept this saying, but only those to whom it has been given.
12For there are eunuchs who were born that way from their mother’s womb, there are eunuchs who were made by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves that way because of the kingdom of heaven. The one who is able to accept it should accept it."
13Then children were brought to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray, but the disciples rebuked them.
14Jesus said, "Leave the children alone, and don’t try to keep them from coming to me, because the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."
15After placing his hands on them, he went on from there.
New Living Translation
Chapter 19
5And he said, '‘This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.’ 6Since they are no longer two but one, let no one split apart what God has joined together.'
8Jesus replied, 'Moses permitted divorce only as a concession to your hard hearts, but it was not what God had originally intended.
9And I tell you this, whoever divorces his wife and marries someone else commits adultery — unless his wife has been unfaithful. '
11Not everyone can accept this statement,' Jesus said. 'Only those whom God helps.
12Some are born as eunuchs, some have been made eunuchs by others, and some choose not to marry for the sake of the Kingdom of Heaven. Let anyone accept this who can.'
