Matthew 21:12-46
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 21
12And Jesus entered the temple area and drove out all those who were selling and buying on the temple grounds, and He overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who were selling doves. 13And He *said to them, 'It is written: ‘MY HOUSE WILL BE CALLED A HOUSE OF PRAYER’; but you are making it a DEN OF ROBBERS.'
14And those who were blind and those who limped came to Him in the temple area, and He healed them.
15But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that He had done, and the children who were shouting in the temple area, 'Hosanna to the Son of David,' they became indignant,
16and they said to Him, 'Do You hear what these children are saying?' And Jesus *said to them, 'Yes. Have you never read, ‘FROM THE MOUTHS OF INFANTS AND NURSING BABIES YOU HAVE PREPARED PRAISE FOR YOURSELF’?'
17And He left them and went out of the city to Bethany, and spent the night there.
18Now in the early morning, when He was returning to the city, He became hungry.
19And seeing a lone fig tree by the road, He came to it and found nothing on it except leaves alone; and He *said to it, 'No longer shall there ever be any fruit from you.' And at once the fig tree withered.
20Seeing this, the disciples were amazed and asked, 'How did the fig tree wither all at once?'
21And Jesus answered and said to them, 'Truly I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ it will happen.
22And whatever you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive it all.'
23When He entered the temple area, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to Him while He was teaching, and said, 'By what authority are You doing these things, and who gave You this authority?'
24But Jesus responded and said to them, 'I will also ask you one question, which, if you tell Me, I will also tell you by what authority I do these things.
25The baptism of John was from what source: from heaven or from men?' And they began considering the implications among themselves, saying, 'If we say, ‘From heaven,’ He will say to us, ‘Then why did you not believe him?’
26But if we say, ‘From men,’ we fear the people; for they all regard John as a prophet.'
27And answering Jesus, they said, 'We do not know.' He also said to them, 'Neither am I telling you by what authority I do these things.
28But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, ‘ Son, go work today in the vineyard.’
29But he replied, ‘I do not want to.’ Yet afterward he regretted it and went.
30And the man came to his second son and said the same thing; and he replied, ‘I will, sir’; and yet he did not go.
31Which of the two did the will of his father?' They *said, 'The first.' Jesus *said to them, 'Truly I say to you that the tax collectors and prostitutes will get into the kingdom of God before you.
32For John came to you in the way of righteousness and you did not believe him; but the tax collectors and prostitutes did believe him; and you, seeing this, did not even have second thoughts afterward so as to believe him.
33Listen to another parable. There was a landowner who PLANTED A VINEYARD AND PUT A FENCE AROUND IT, AND DUG A WINE PRESS IN IT, AND BUILT A TOWER, and he leased it to vine-growers and went on a journey.
34And when the harvest time approached, he sent his slaves to the vine-growers to receive his fruit.
35And the vine-growers took his slaves and beat one, killed another, and stoned another.
36Again, he sent other slaves, more than the first; and they did the same things to them.
37But afterward he sent his son to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’
38But when the vine-growers saw the son, they said among themselves, ‘This is the heir; come, let’s kill him and take possession of his inheritance!’
39And they took him and threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him.
40Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those vine-growers?'
41They *said to Him, 'He will bring those wretches to a wretched end and lease the vineyard to other vine-growers, who will pay him the fruit in the proper seasons.'
42Jesus *said to them, 'Did you never read in the Scriptures, ‘A STONE WHICH THE BUILDERS REJECTED, THIS HAS BECOME THE CHIEF CORNERSTONE; THIS CAME ABOUT FROM THE Lord, AND IT IS MARVELOUS IN OUR EYES’?
43Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people producing its fruit.
44And the one who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; and on whomever it falls, it will crush him.'

Chapter 21
12And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, 13And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.
14And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them.
15And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the Son of David; they were sore displeased,
16And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise
17And he left them, and went out of the city into Bethany; and he lodged there.
18Now in the morning as he returned into the city, he hungered.
19And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away.
20And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered away!
21Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.
22And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.
23And when he was come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came unto him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority?
24And Jesus answered and said unto them, I also will ask you one thing, which if ye tell me, I in like wise will tell you by what authority I do these things.
25The baptism of John, whence was it from heaven, or of men And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say unto us, Why did ye not then believe him
26But if we shall say, Of men; we fear the people; for all hold John as a prophet.
27And they answered Jesus, and said, We cannot tell. And he said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.
28But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard.
29He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went.
30And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not.
31Whether of them twain did the will of his father They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.
32For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.
33Hear another parable: There was a certain householder, which planted a vineyard, and hedged it round about, and digged a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country:
34And when the time of the fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, that they might receive the fruits of it.
35And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another.
36Again, he sent other servants more than the first: and they did unto them likewise.
37But last of all he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son.
38But when the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance.
39And they caught him, and cast him out of the vineyard, and slew him.
40When the lord therefore of the vineyard cometh, what will he do unto those husbandmen?
41They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will let out his vineyard unto other husbandmen, which shall render him the fruits in their seasons.
42Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes
43Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.
44And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.
45And when the chief priests and Pharisees had heard his parables, they perceived that he spake of them.
46But when they sought to lay hands on him, they feared the multitude, because they took him for a prophet.

Chapter 21
12Jesus went into the temple and threw out all those buying and selling. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the chairs of those selling doves. 13He said to them, "It is written, my house will be called a house of prayer, but you are making it a den of thieves!"
14The blind and the lame came to him in the temple, and he healed them.
15When the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonders that he did and the children shouting in the temple," Hosanna to the Son of David!" they were indignant
18Early in the morning, as he was returning to the city, he was hungry.
19Seeing a lone fig tree by the road, he went up to it and found nothing on it except leaves. And he said to it, "May no fruit ever come from you again!" At once the fig tree withered.
21Jesus answered them, "Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you tell this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ it will be done.
22And if you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer."
25Did John’s baptism come from heaven, or was it of human origin?" They discussed it among themselves, "If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say to us, ‘Then why didn’t you believe him?’
26But if we say, ‘Of human origin,’ we’re afraid of the crowd, because everyone considers John to be a prophet."
29"He answered, ‘I don’t want to’ but later he changed his mind and went.
30Then the man went to the other and said the same thing. ‘I will, sir,’ he answered, but he didn’t go.
31Which of the two did his father’s will?" They said, "The first." Jesus said to them, "Truly I tell you, tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God before you.
32For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you didn’t believe him. Tax collectors and prostitutes did believe him; but you, when you saw it, didn’t even change your minds then and believe him.
33"Listen to another parable: There was a landowner, who planted a vineyard, put a fence around it, dug a winepress in it, and built a watchtower. He leased it to tenant farmers and went away.
34When the time came to harvest fruit, he sent his servants to the farmers to collect his fruit.
35The farmers took his servants, beat one, killed another, and stoned a third.
36Again, he sent other servants, more than the first group, and they did the same to them.
37Finally, he sent his son to them. ‘They will respect my son,’ he said.
38"But when the tenant farmers saw the son, they said to each other, ‘This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him and take his inheritance.’
39So they seized him, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him.
40Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those farmers?"

Chapter 21
12Jesus entered the Temple and began to drive out all the people buying and selling animals for sacrifice. He knocked over the tables of the money changers and the chairs of those selling doves. 13He said to them, 'The Scriptures declare, ‘My Temple will be called a house of prayer,’ but you have turned it into a den of thieves!'
16They asked Jesus, 'Do you hear what these children are saying?' 'Yes,' Jesus replied. 'Haven’t you ever read the Scriptures? For they say, ‘You have taught children and infants to give you praise.’ '
17Then he returned to Bethany, where he stayed overnight.
18In the morning, as Jesus was returning to Jerusalem, he was hungry,
19and he noticed a fig tree beside the road. He went over to see if there were any figs, but there were only leaves. Then he said to it, 'May you never bear fruit again!' And immediately the fig tree withered up.
21Then Jesus told them, 'I tell you the truth, if you have faith and don’t doubt, you can do things like this and much more. You can even say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen.
22You can pray for anything, and if you have faith, you will receive it.'
25Did John’s authority to baptize come from heaven, or was it merely human?' They talked it over among themselves. 'If we say it was from heaven, he will ask us why we didn’t believe John.
26But if we say it was merely human, we’ll be mobbed because the people believe John was a prophet.'
28But what do you think about this? A man with two sons told the older boy, ‘Son, go out and work in the vineyard today.’
29The son answered, ‘No, I won’t go,’ but later he changed his mind and went anyway.
30Then the father told the other son, ‘You go,’ and he said, ‘Yes, sir, I will.’ But he didn’t go.
31Which of the two obeyed his father?' They replied, 'The first.' Then Jesus explained his meaning: 'I tell you the truth, corrupt tax collectors and prostitutes will get into the Kingdom of God before you do.
32For John the Baptist came and showed you the right way to live, but you didn’t believe him, while tax collectors and prostitutes did. And even when you saw this happening, you refused to believe him and repent of your sins.
33Now listen to another story. A certain landowner planted a vineyard, built a wall around it, dug a pit for pressing out the grape juice, and built a lookout tower. Then he leased the vineyard to tenant farmers and moved to another country.
34At the time of the grape harvest, he sent his servants to collect his share of the crop.
35But the farmers grabbed his servants, beat one, killed one, and stoned another.
36So the landowner sent a larger group of his servants to collect for him, but the results were the same.
38But when the tenant farmers saw his son coming, they said to one another, ‘Here comes the heir to this estate. Come on, let’s kill him and get the estate for ourselves!’
39So they grabbed him, dragged him out of the vineyard, and murdered him.

12And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all who sold and bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. 13He said to them, "It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you make it a den of robbers."

16and they said to him, "Do you hear what these are saying?" And Jesus said to them, "Yes; have you never read, "‘Out of the mouth of infants and nursing babies you have prepared praise’?"
18In the morning, as he was returning to the city, he became hungry.
