3At that time the chief priests and the elders of the people were gathered together in the courtyard of the high priest named Caiaphas;
4and they plotted together to arrest Jesus covertly and kill Him.
5But they were saying, 'Not during the festival, otherwise a riot might occur among the people.'
6Now when Jesus was in Bethany, at the home of Simon the Leper,
7a woman came to Him with an alabaster vial of very expensive perfume, and she poured it on His head as He was reclining at the table.
8But the disciples were indignant when they saw this, and said, 'Why this waste?
9For this perfume could have been sold for a high price and the money given to the poor.'
10But Jesus, aware of this, said to them, 'Why are you bothering the woman? For she has done a good deed for Me.
11For you always have the poor with you; but you do not always have Me.
12For when she poured this perfume on My body, she did it to prepare Me for burial.
13Truly I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told in memory of her.'
14Then one of the twelve, named Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests
15and said, 'What are you willing to give me to betray Him to you?' And they set out for him thirty pieces of silver.
16And from then on he looked for a good opportunity to betray Jesus.
17Now on the first day of Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus and asked, 'Where do You want us to prepare for You to eat the Passover?'
18And He said, 'Go into the city to a certain man, and say to him, ‘The Teacher says, 'My time is near; I am keeping the Passover at your house with My disciples.'?’?'
19The disciples did as Jesus had directed them; and they prepared the Passover.
20Now when evening came, Jesus was reclining at the table with the twelve.
21And as they were eating, He said, 'Truly I say to you that one of you will betray Me.'
22Being deeply grieved, they began saying to Him, each one: 'Surely it is not I, Lord?'
23And He answered, 'He who dipped his hand with Me in the bowl is the one who will betray Me.
24The Son of Man is going away just as it is written about Him; but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good for that man if he had not been born.'
25And Judas, who was betraying Him, said, 'Surely it is not I, Rabbi?' Jesus *said to him, 'You have said it yourself.'
26Now while they were eating, Jesus took some bread, and after a blessing, He broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, 'Take, eat; this is My body.'
27And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, 'Drink from it, all of you;
28for this is My blood of the covenant, which is being poured out for many for forgiveness of sins.
29But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it with you, new, in My Father’s kingdom.'
31Then Jesus *said to them, 'You will all fall away because of Me this night, for it is written: ‘I WILL STRIKE THE SHEPHERD, AND THE SHEEP OF THE FLOCK WILL BE SCATTERED.’
32But after I have been raised, I will go ahead of you to Galilee.'
33But Peter replied to Him, 'Even if they all fall away because of You, I will never fall away!'
34Jesus said to him, 'Truly I say to you that this very night, before a rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.'
35Peter *said to Him, 'Even if I have to die with You, I will not deny You!' All the disciples said the same thing as well.
36Then Jesus *came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and *told His disciples, 'Sit here while I go over there and pray.'
37And He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee with Him, and began to be grieved and distressed.
38Then He *said to them, 'My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death; remain here and keep watch with Me.'
39And He went a little beyond them, and fell on His face and prayed, saying, 'My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will.'
40And He *came to the disciples and *found them sleeping, and He *said to Peter, 'So, you men could not keep watch with Me for one hour?

2Ye know that after two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified. 3Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas, 4And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtilty, and kill him. 5But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar among the people.
6Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,
7There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat.
8But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste?
9For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor.
10When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman for she hath wrought a good work upon me.
11For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.
12For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial.
13Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her.
14Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,
15And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.
16And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.
17Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover?
18And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples.
19And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the passover.
20Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve.
21And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.
22And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I?
23And he answered and said, He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me.
24The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born.
25Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered and said, Master, is it I He said unto him, Thou hast said.
26And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.
27And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;
28For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
29But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.
30And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.
31Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.
32But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee.
33Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended.
34Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.
35Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.
36Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.
37And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.
38Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.
39And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
40And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour

7a woman approached him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume. She poured it on his head as he was reclining at the table.
8When the disciples saw it, they were indignant. "Why this waste?" they asked.
9"This might have been sold for a great deal and given to the poor."
10Aware of this, Jesus said to them, "Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a noble thing for me.

38He said to them, "I am deeply grieved to the point of death. Remain here and stay awake with me."
39Going a little farther, he fell facedown and prayed, "My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will."

Chapter 26
2As you know, Passover begins in two days, and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.'
3At that same time the leading priests and elders were meeting at the residence of Caiaphas, the high priest,
4plotting how to capture Jesus secretly and kill him.
5But not during the Passover celebration,' they agreed, 'or the people may riot.'
6Meanwhile, Jesus was in Bethany at the home of Simon, a man who had previously had leprosy.
7While he was eating, a woman came in with a beautiful alabaster jar of expensive perfume and poured it over his head.
8The disciples were indignant when they saw this. 'What a waste!' they said.
9It could have been sold for a high price and the money given to the poor.'
10But Jesus, aware of this, replied, 'Why criticize this woman for doing such a good thing to me?
11You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me.
12She has poured this perfume on me to prepare my body for burial.
13I tell you the truth, wherever the Good News is preached throughout the world, this woman’s deed will be remembered and discussed.'
14Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve disciples, went to the leading priests
15and asked, 'How much will you pay me to betray Jesus to you?' And they gave him thirty pieces of silver.
16From that time on, Judas began looking for an opportunity to betray Jesus.
18As you go into the city,' he told them, 'you will see a certain man. Tell him, ‘The Teacher says: My time has come, and I will eat the Passover meal with my disciples at your house.’'
19So the disciples did as Jesus told them and prepared the Passover meal there.
20When it was evening, Jesus sat down at the table with the Twelve.
21While they were eating, he said, 'I tell you the truth, one of you will betray me.'
23He replied, 'One of you who has just eaten from this bowl with me will betray me.
24For the Son of Man must die, as the Scriptures declared long ago. But how terrible it will be for the one who betrays him. It would be far better for that man if he had never been born!'
27And he took a cup of wine and gave thanks to God for it. He gave it to them and said, 'Each of you drink from it,
28for this is my blood, which confirms the covenant between God and his people. It is poured out as a sacrifice to forgive the sins of many.
29Mark my words — I will not drink wine again until the day I drink it new with you in my Father’s Kingdom.'
32But after I have been raised from the dead, I will go ahead of you to Galilee and meet you there.'
36Then Jesus went with them to the olive grove called Gethsemane, and he said, 'Sit here while I go over there to pray.'
37He took Peter and Zebedee’s two sons, James and John, and he became anguished and distressed.
38He told them, 'My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.'
