Matthew 27:13-28
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 27
13Then Pilate *said to Him, 'Do You not hear how many things they are testifying against You?' 14And still He did not answer him in regard to even a single charge, so the governor was greatly amazed.
15Now at the Passover Feast the governor was accustomed to release for the people any one prisoner whom they wanted.
16And at that time they were holding a notorious prisoner called Barabbas.
17So when the people gathered together, Pilate said to them, 'Whom do you want me to release for you: Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?'
18For he knew that it was because of envy that they had handed Him over.
19And while he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent him a message, saying, 'See that you have nothing to do with that righteous Man; for last night I suffered greatly in a dream because of Him.'
20But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas, and to put Jesus to death.
21And the governor said to them, 'Which of the two do you want me to release for you?' And they said, 'Barabbas.'
22Pilate *said to them, 'Then what shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?' They all *said, 'Crucify Him!'
23But he said, 'Why, what evil has He done?' Yet they kept shouting all the more, saying, 'Crucify Him!'
24Now when Pilate saw that he was accomplishing nothing, but rather that a riot was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd, saying, 'I am innocent of this Man’s blood; you yourselves shall see.'
25And all the people replied, 'His blood shall be on us and on our children!'
26Then he released Barabbas for them; but after having Jesus flogged, he handed Him over to be crucified.

Chapter 27
13Then said Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee? 14And he answered him to never a word; insomuch that the governor marvelled greatly.
15Now at that feast the governor was wont to release unto the people a prisoner, whom they would.
16And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas.
17Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ?
18For he knew that for envy they had delivered him.
19When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him.
20But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.
21The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas.
22Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified.
23And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified.
24When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.

Chapter 27
13Then Pilate said to him, "Don’t you hear how much they are testifying against you?" 14But he didn’t answer him on even one charge, so that the governor was quite amazed.
15At the festival the governor’s custom was to release to the crowd a prisoner they wanted.
16At that time they had a notorious prisoner called Barabbas.
17So when they had gathered together, Pilate said to them, "Who is it you want me to release for you—Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?"
18For he knew it was because of envy that they had handed him over.
New Living Translation
Chapter 27
13Don’t you hear all these charges they are bringing against you?' Pilate demanded. 14But Jesus made no response to any of the charges, much to the governor’s surprise.
15Now it was the governor’s custom each year during the Passover celebration to release one prisoner to the crowd — anyone they wanted.
16This year there was a notorious prisoner, a man named Barabbas.
17As the crowds gathered before Pilate’s house that morning, he asked them, 'Which one do you want me to release to you — Barabbas, or Jesus who is called the Messiah?'
18(He knew very well that the religious leaders had arrested Jesus out of envy.)

Chapter 27
13Then Pilate asked him, "Don’t you hear the testimony they are bringing against you?" 14But Jesus made no reply, not even to a single charge—to the great amazement of the governor.
15Now it was the governor’s custom at the festival to release a prisoner chosen by the crowd.
16At that time they had a well-known prisoner whose name was Jesus Barabbas.
17So when the crowd had gathered, Pilate asked them, "Which one do you want me to release to you: Jesus Barabbas, or Jesus who is called the Messiah?"
18For he knew it was out of self-interest that they had handed Jesus over to him.
