Matthew 5:30-33
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 5
30
And if your right hand is causing you to sin, cut it off and throw it away from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your
body,
than for your whole body to go into hell.
31
Now it was said, ‘WHOEVER SENDS HIS WIFE AWAY IS TO GIVE HER A CERTIFICATE OF DIVORCE’;
32
but I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except for
the
reason of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
33
Again, you have heard that the ancients were told, ‘ YOU SHALL NOT MAKE FALSE VOWS, BUT SHALL FULFILL YOUR VOWS TO THE
Lord
.’
King James Version
Chapter 5
30
And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
31
It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:
32
But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.
33
Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 5
30
And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of the parts of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.
31
"It was also said,
Whoever divorces
his wife must give her a written notice of divorce.
32
But I tell you, everyone who divorces his wife, except in a case of sexual immorality, causes her to commit adultery. And whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
33
"Again, you have heard that it was said to our ancestors,
You must not break your oath, but you must keep your oaths to the Lord.
New Living Translation
Chapter 5
30
And if your hand — even your stronger hand — causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.
31
You have heard the law that says, ‘A man can divorce his wife by merely giving her a written notice of divorce.’
32
But I say that a man who divorces his wife, unless she has been unfaithful, causes her to commit adultery. And anyone who marries a divorced woman also commits adultery.
33
You have also heard that our ancestors were told, ‘You must not break your vows; you must carry out the vows you make to the
Lord
.’
English Standard Version
Chapter 5
30
And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell.
31
"It was also said, ‘Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.’
32
But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
33
"Again you have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform to the Lord what you have sworn.’
New International Version
Chapter 5
30
And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.
31
"It has been said, ‘Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a certificate of divorce.’
32
But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, makes her the victim of adultery, and anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
33
"Again, you have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘Do not break your oath, but fulfill to the Lord the vows you have made.’
New King James Version
Chapter 5
30
And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast
it
from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.
31
“Furthermore it has been said, ‘Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.’
32
But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife for any reason except sexual immorality causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a woman who is divorced commits adultery.
33
“Again you have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform your oaths to the Lord.’
