Nahum 1:5-15
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 1
5Mountains quake because of Him, And the hills come apart; Indeed the earth is upheaved by His presence, The world and all the inhabitants in it. 6Who can stand before His indignation? Who can endure the burning of His anger? His wrath gushes forth like fire, And the rocks are broken up by Him. 7The Lord is good, A stronghold in the day of trouble, And He knows those who take refuge in Him. 8But with an overflowing flood He will make a complete end of its site, And will pursue His enemies into darkness. 9Whatever you devise against the Lord, He will make a complete end of it. Distress will not rise up twice. 10Like tangled thorns, And like those who are drunken with their drink, They are consumed Like stubble completely dried up. 11From you has gone out One who plotted evil against the Lord, A wicked counselor. 12This is what the Lord says: 'Though they are at full strength and so they are many, So also they will be cut off and pass away. Though I have afflicted you, I will afflict you no longer. 13So now, I will break his yoke from upon you, And I will tear your shackles to pieces.' 14The Lord has issued a command concerning you: 'Your name will no longer be perpetuated. I will eliminate the carved image and the cast metal image From the house of your gods. I will prepare your grave, For you are contemptible.' 15 Behold, on the mountains, the feet of him who brings good news, Who announces peace! Celebrate your feasts, Judah, Pay your vows. For never again will the wicked one pass through you; He is eliminated completely.King James Version
8But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue his enemies.
9What do ye imagine against the Lord? he will make an utter end: affliction shall not rise up the second time.
11There is one come out of thee, that imagineth evil against the Lord, a wicked counsellor.
12Thus saith the Lord; Though they be quiet, and likewise many, yet thus shall they be cut down, when he shall pass through. Though I have afflicted thee, I will afflict thee no more.
13For now will I break his yoke from off thee, and will burst thy bonds in sunder.
14And the Lord hath given a commandment concerning thee, that no more of thy name be sown: out of the house of thy gods will I cut off the graven image and the molten image: I will make thy grave; for thou art vile.
15Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace! O Judah, keep thy solemn feasts, perform thy vows: for the wicked shall no more pass through thee; he is utterly cut off.

Chapter 1
5The mountains quake before him, and the hills melt; the earth trembles at his presence— the world and all who live in it. 6Who can withstand his indignation? Who can endure his burning anger? His wrath is poured out like fire; even rocks are shattered before him. 7The Lord is good, a stronghold in a day of distress; he cares for those who take refuge in him.
8But he will completely destroy Nineveh with an overwhelming flood, and he will chase his enemies into darkness.
9Whatever you plot against the Lord, he will bring it to complete destruction; oppression will not rise up a second time.
10For they will be consumed like entangled thorns, like the drink of a drunkard and like straw that is fully dry.
11One has gone out from you, who plots evil against the Lord, and is a wicked counselor.
12This is what the Lord says: Though they are strong and numerous, they will still be mowed down, and he will pass away. Though I have punished you, I will punish you no longer.
13For I will now break off his yoke from you and tear off your shackles.
14The Lord has issued an order concerning you: There will be no offspring to carry on your name. I will eliminate the carved idol and cast image from the house of your gods; I will prepare your grave, for you are contemptible.
15Look to the mountains— the feet of the herald, who proclaims peace. Celebrate your festivals, Judah; fulfill your vows. For the wicked one will never again march through you; he will be entirely wiped out.
New Living Translation
Chapter 1
5In his presence the mountains quake, and the hills melt away; the earth trembles, and its people are destroyed. 6Who can stand before his fierce anger? Who can survive his burning fury? His rage blazes forth like fire, and the mountains crumble to dust in his presence.
7The Lord is good, a strong refuge when trouble comes. He is close to those who trust in him.
8But he will sweep away his enemies in an overwhelming flood. He will pursue his foes into the darkness of night.
9Why are you scheming against the Lord? He will destroy you with one blow; he won’t need to strike twice!
10His enemies, tangled like thornbushes and staggering like drunks, will be burned up like dry stubble in a field.
11Who is this wicked counselor of yours who plots evil against the Lord?
