Chapter 14
2And all the sons of Israel grumbled against Moses and Aaron; and the entire congregation said to them, 'If only we had died in the land of Egypt! Or even if we had died in this wilderness! 3So why is the Lord bringing us into this land to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will become plunder! Would it not be better for us to return to Egypt?' 4So they said to one another, 'Let’s appoint a leader and return to Egypt!'King James Version

2And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this wilderness! 3And wherefore hath the Lord brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? were it not better for us to return into Egypt? 4And they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt.Christian Standard Bible

'If only we had died in Egypt, or even here in the wilderness!' they complained. 3Why is the Lord taking us to this country only to have us die in battle? Our wives and our little ones will be carried off as plunder!
