Numbers 27:14-21
New American Standard Bible
15Then Moses spoke to the Lord, saying,
16May the Lord, the God of the spirits of humanity, appoint a man over the congregation,
17who will go out and come in before them, and lead them out and bring them in, so that the congregation of the Lord will not be like sheep that have no shepherd.'
18So the Lord said to Moses, 'Take Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the Spirit, and lay your hand on him;
19and have him stand before Eleazar the priest and before all the congregation, and commission him in their sight.
20And you shall put some of your authority on him, so that all the congregation of the sons of Israel will obey him.
21Moreover, he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire for him by the judgment of the Urim before the Lord. At his command they shall go out, and at his command they shall come in, both he and all the sons of Israel with him, all the congregation.'
King James Version
15And Moses spake unto the Lord, saying,
16Let the Lord, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation,
17Which may go out before them, and which may go in before them, and which may lead them out, and which may bring them in; that the congregation of the Lord be not as sheep which have no shepherd.
18And the Lord said unto Moses, Take thee Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit, and lay thine hand upon him;
19And set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation; and give him a charge in their sight.
20And thou shalt put some of thine honour upon him, that all the congregation of the children of Israel may be obedient.
21And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall ask counsel for him after the judgment of Urim before the Lord: at his word shall they go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he, and all the children of Israel with him, even all the congregation.

15So Moses appealed to the Lord,
16"May the Lord, the God who gives breath to all, appoint a man over the community
17who will go out before them and come back in before them, and who will bring them out and bring them in, so that the Lord’s community won’t be like sheep without a shepherd."
18The Lord replied to Moses, "Take Joshua son of Nun, a man who has the Spirit in him, and lay your hands on him.
19Have him stand before the priest Eleazar and the whole community, and commission him in their sight.
20Confer some of your authority on him so that the entire Israelite community will obey him.
21He will stand before the priest Eleazar who will consult the Lord for him with the decision of the Urim. He and all the Israelites with him, even the entire community, will go out and come back in at his command."
New Living Translation
15Then Moses said to the Lord,
16O Lord, you are the God who gives breath to all creatures. Please appoint a new man as leader for the community.
17Give them someone who will guide them wherever they go and will lead them into battle, so the community of the Lord will not be like sheep without a shepherd.'
18The Lord replied, 'Take Joshua son of Nun, who has the Spirit in him, and lay your hands on him.
19Present him to Eleazar the priest before the whole community, and publicly commission him to lead the people.
20Transfer some of your authority to him so the whole community of Israel will obey him.
21When direction from the Lord is needed, Joshua will stand before Eleazar the priest, who will use the Urim — one of the sacred lots cast before the Lord — to determine his will. This is how Joshua and the rest of the community of Israel will determine everything they should do.'

Chapter 27
14because you rebelled against my word in the wilderness of Zin when the congregation quarreled, failing to uphold me as holy at the waters before their eyes." At his word they shall go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he and all the people of Israel with him, the whole congregation."New International Version
