Philemon 1:7-9
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 1
7
For I have had great joy and comfort in your love, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through you, brother.
8
Therefore, though I have enough confidence in Christ to order you
to do
what is proper,
9
yet
for love’s sake I rather appeal
to you
—since I am such a person as Paul, an old man, and now also a prisoner of Christ Jesus—
King James Version
Chapter 1
7
For we have great joy and consolation in thy love, because the bowels of the saints are refreshed by thee, brother.
8
Wherefore, though I might be much bold in Christ to enjoin thee that which is convenient,
9
Yet for love's sake I rather beseech thee, being such an one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 1
7
For I have great joy and encouragement from your love, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through you, brother.
8
For this reason, although I have great boldness in Christ to command you to do what is right,
9
I appeal to you, instead, on the basis of love. I, Paul, as an elderly man and now also as a prisoner of Christ Jesus,
New Living Translation
Chapter 1
7
Your love has given me much joy and comfort, my brother, for your kindness has often refreshed the hearts of God’s people.
8
That is why I am boldly asking a favor of you. I could demand it in the name of Christ because it is the right thing for you to do.
9
But because of our love, I prefer simply to ask you. Consider this as a request from me — Paul, an old man and now also a prisoner for the sake of Christ Jesus.
English Standard Version
Chapter 1
7
For I have derived much joy and comfort from your love, my brother, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through you.
8
Accordingly, though I am bold enough in Christ to command you to do what is required,
9
yet for love 's sake I prefer to appeal to you — I, Paul, an old man and now a prisoner also for Christ Jesus —
New International Version
Chapter 1
7
Your love has given me great joy and encouragement, because you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the Lord’s people.
8
Therefore, although in Christ I could be bold and order you to do what you ought to do,
9
yet I prefer to appeal to you on the basis of love. It is as none other than Paul—an old man and now also a prisoner of Christ Jesus—
New King James Version
Chapter 1
7
For we have great joy and consolation in your love, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed by you, brother.
8
Therefore, though I might be very bold in Christ to command you what is fitting,
9
yet
for love’s sake I rather appeal
to you
—being such a one as Paul, the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ—
