Psalms 125-129
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 125
1Those who trust in the Lord Are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved but remains forever. 2 As the mountains surround Jerusalem, So the Lord surrounds His people From this time and forever. 3For the scepter of wickedness will not rest upon the land of the righteous, So that the righteous will not extend their hands to do wrong. 4Do good, Lord, to those who are good And to those who are upright in their hearts. 5But as for those who turn aside to their crooked ways, The Lord will lead them away with those who practice injustice. Peace be upon Israel.Chapter 126
1When the Lord brought back the captives of Zion, We were like those who dream. 2Then our mouth was filled with laughter And our tongue with joyful shouting; Then they said among the nations, 'The Lord has done great things for them.' 3The Lord has done great things for us; We are joyful. 4Restore our fortunes, Lord, As the streams in the South. 5Those who sow in tears shall harvest with joyful shouting. 6One who goes here and there weeping, carrying his bag of seed, Shall indeed come again with a shout of joy, bringing his sheaves with him.Chapter 127
1Unless the Lord builds a house, They who build it labor in vain; Unless the Lord guards a city, The watchman stays awake in vain. 2It is futile for you to rise up early, To stay up late, To eat the bread of painful labor; This is how He gives to His beloved sleep. 3Behold, children are a gift of the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward. 4Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth. 5Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them; They will not be ashamed When they speak with their enemies in the gate.Chapter 128
1Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, Who walks in His ways. 2When you eat the fruit of the labor of your hands, You will be happy and it will go well for you. 3Your wife will be like a fruitful vine Within your house, Your children like olive plants Around your table. 4Behold, for so shall a man Who fears the Lord be blessed. 5The Lord bless you from Zion, And may you see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life. 6Indeed, may you see your children’s children. Peace be upon Israel!Chapter 129
1'Many times they have attacked me from my youth up,' Let Israel say, 2'Many times they have attacked me from my youth up; Yet they have not prevailed against me. 3The plowers plowed upon my back; They lengthened their furrows.' 4The Lord is righteous; He has cut up the ropes of the wicked. 5May all who hate Zion Be put to shame and turned backward; 6May they be like grass upon the housetops, Which withers before it grows up; 7With which the harvester does not fill his hand, Or the binder of sheaves his arms; 8Nor do those who pass by say, 'The blessing of the Lord be upon you; We bless you in the name of the Lord.'King James Version
Chapter 126
1A Song of degrees. When the Lord turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream.Chapter 128
1A Song of degrees. Blessed is every one that feareth the Lord; that walketh in his ways.Christian Standard Bible
2The mountains surround Jerusalem and the Lord surrounds his people, both now and forever.
3The scepter of the wicked will not remain over the land allotted to the righteous, so that the righteous will not apply their hands to injustice.
4Do what is good, Lord, to the good, to those whose hearts are upright.
5But as for those who turn aside to crooked ways, the Lord will banish them with the evildoers. Peace be with Israel.
Chapter 126
1A song of ascents. When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream. 2Our mouths were filled with laughter then, and our tongues with shouts of joy. Then they said among the nations, "The Lord has done great things for them."
3The Lord had done great things for us; we were joyful.
4Restore our fortunes, Lord, like watercourses in the Negev.
5Those who sow in tears will reap with shouts of joy.
6Though one goes along weeping, carrying the bag of seed, he will surely come back with shouts of joy, carrying his sheaves.
2In vain you get up early and stay up late, working hard to have enough food— yes, he gives sleep to the one he loves.
3Sons are indeed a heritage from the Lord, offspring, a reward.
4Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the sons born in one’s youth.
5Happy is the man who has filled his quiver with them. They will never be put to shame when they speak with their enemies at the city gate.
Chapter 128
1A song of ascents. How happy is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in his ways! 2You will surely eat what your hands have worked for. You will be happy, and it will go well for you. 3Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house, your children, like young olive trees around your table.
4In this very way the man who fears the Lord will be blessed.
5May the Lord bless you from Zion, so that you will see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life
6and will see your children’s children! Peace be with Israel.
Chapter 129
1A song of ascents. Since my youth they have often attacked me— let Israel say— 2Since my youth they have often attacked me, but they have not prevailed against me. 3Plowmen plowed over my back; they made their furrows long.
4The Lord is righteous; he has cut the ropes of the wicked.
5Let all who hate Zion be driven back in disgrace.
6Let them be like grass on the rooftops, which withers before it grows up
7and can’t even fill the hands of the reaper or the arms of the one who binds sheaves.
8Then none who pass by will say, "May the Lord’s blessing be on you. We bless you in the name of the Lord."
New Living Translation
Chapter 125
1Those who trust in the Lord are as secure as Mount Zion; they will not be defeated but will endure forever. 2Just as the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds his people, both now and forever. 3The wicked will not rule the land of the godly, for then the godly might be tempted to do wrong. 4O Lord, do good to those who are good, whose hearts are in tune with you.Chapter 126
1When the Lord brought back his exiles to Jerusalem, it was like a dream! 2We were filled with laughter, and we sang for joy. And the other nations said, 'What amazing things the Lord has done for them.' 3Yes, the Lord has done amazing things for us! What joy!
4Restore our fortunes, Lord, as streams renew the desert.
5Those who plant in tears will harvest with shouts of joy.
6They weep as they go to plant their seed, but they sing as they return with the harvest.
Chapter 127
1Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted. Unless the Lord protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good. 2It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones.
3Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.
4Children born to a young man are like arrows in a warrior’s hands.
5How joyful is the man whose quiver is full of them! He will not be put to shame when he confronts his accusers at the city gates.
Chapter 128
1How joyful are those who fear the Lord — all who follow his ways! 2You will enjoy the fruit of your labor. How joyful and prosperous you will be! 3Your wife will be like a fruitful grapevine, flourishing within your home. Your children will be like vigorous young olive trees as they sit around your table. 4That is the Lord’s blessing for those who fear him.
5May the Lord continually bless you from Zion. May you see Jerusalem prosper as long as you live.
6May you live to enjoy your grandchildren. May Israel have peace!
Chapter 129
1From my earliest youth my enemies have persecuted me. Let all Israel repeat this: 2From my earliest youth my enemies have persecuted me, but they have never defeated me. 3My back is covered with cuts, as if a farmer had plowed long furrows. 4But the Lord is good; he has cut me free from the ropes of the ungodly.
5May all who hate Jerusalem be turned back in shameful defeat.
6May they be as useless as grass on a rooftop, turning yellow when only half grown,
7ignored by the harvester, despised by the binder.
8And may those who pass by refuse to give them this blessing: 'The Lord bless you; we bless you in the Lord’s name.'

Chapter 129
1A song of ascents. "They have greatly oppressed me from my youth," let Israel say; 2"they have greatly oppressed me from my youth, but they have not gained the victory over me. 3Plowmen have plowed my back and made their furrows long.
4But the Lord is righteous; he has cut me free from the cords of the wicked."
5May all who hate Zion be turned back in shame.
6May they be like grass on the roof, which withers before it can grow;
7a reaper cannot fill his hands with it, nor one who gathers fill his arms.
8May those who pass by not say to them, "The blessing of the Lord be on you; we bless you in the name of the Lord."
