Psalms 91-97
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 91
1One who dwells in the shelter of the Most High Will lodge in the shadow of the Almighty. 2I will say to the Lord, 'My refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust!' 3For it is He who rescues you from the net of the trapper And from the deadly plague. 4He will cover you with His pinions, And under His wings you may take refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and wall. 5You will not be afraid of the terror by night, Or of the arrow that flies by day; 6Of the plague that stalks in darkness, Or of the destruction that devastates at noon. 7A thousand may fall at your side And ten thousand at your right hand, But it shall not approach you. 8You will only look on with your eyes And see the retaliation against the wicked. 9 For you have made the Lord, my refuge, The Most High, your dwelling place. 10No evil will happen to you, Nor will any plague come near your tent. 11For He will give His angels orders concerning you, To protect you in all your ways. 12On their hands they will lift you up, So that you do not strike your foot against a stone. 13You will walk upon the lion and cobra, You will trample the young lion and the serpent. 14'Because he has loved Me, I will save him; I will set him securely on high, because he has known My name. 15He will call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. 16I will satisfy him with a long life, And show him My salvation.'Chapter 92
1It is good to give thanks to the Lord And to sing praises to Your name, Most High; 2To declare Your goodness in the morning And Your faithfulness by night, 3 With the ten-stringed lute and with the harp, With resounding music on the lyre. 4For You, Lord, have made me joyful by what You have done, I will sing for joy over the works of Your hands. 5How great are Your works, Lord! Your thoughts are very deep. 6A stupid person has no knowledge, Nor does a foolish person understand this: 7When the wicked sprouted up like grass And all who did injustice flourished, It was only that they might be destroyed forevermore. 8But You, Lord, are on high forever. 9For, behold, Your enemies, Lord, For, behold, Your enemies will perish; All who do injustice will be scattered. 10But You have exalted my horn like that of the wild ox; I have been anointed with fresh oil. 11And my eye has looked at my enemies, My ears hear of the evildoers who rise up against me. 12The righteous person will flourish like the palm tree, He will grow like a cedar in Lebanon. 13Planted in the house of the Lord, They will flourish in the courtyards of our God. 14They will still yield fruit in advanced age; They will be full of sap and very green, 15To declare that the Lord is just; He is my rock, and there is no malice in Him.Chapter 93
1The Lord reigns, He is clothed with majesty; The Lord has clothed and encircled Himself with strength. Indeed, the world is firmly established; it will not be moved. 2Your throne is established from of old; You are from eternity. 3The floods have lifted up, Lord, The floods have lifted up their voice, The floods lift up their pounding waves. 4More than the sounds of many waters, Than the mighty breakers of the sea, The Lord on high is mighty. 5Your testimonies are fully confirmed; Holiness is pleasing to Your house, Lord, forevermore.Chapter 94
1Lord, God of vengeance, God of vengeance, shine forth! 2Rise up, Judge of the earth, Pay back retribution to the proud. 3How long, Lord, shall the wicked— How long shall the wicked triumph? 4They pour out words, they speak arrogantly; All who do injustice boast. 5They crush Your people, Lord, And afflict Your inheritance. 6They kill the widow and the stranger And murder the orphans. 7They have said, 'The Lord does not see, Nor does the God of Jacob perceive.' 8Pay attention, you stupid ones among the people; And when will you understand, foolish ones? 9He who planted the ear, does He not hear? Or He who formed the eye, does He not see? 10He who disciplines the nations, will He not rebuke, He who teaches mankind knowledge? 11The Lord knows human thoughts, That they are mere breath. 12Blessed is the man whom You discipline, Lord, And whom You teach from Your Law, 13So that You may grant him relief from the days of adversity, Until a pit is dug for the wicked. 14For the Lord will not abandon His people, Nor will He abandon His inheritance. 15For judgment will again be righteous, And all the upright in heart will follow it. 16Who will stand up for me against evildoers? Who will take his stand for me against those who do injustice? 17If the Lord had not been my help, My soul would soon have dwelt in the land of silence. 18If I should say, 'My foot has slipped,' Your faithfulness, Lord, will support me. 19When my anxious thoughts multiply within me, Your comfort delights my soul. 20Can a throne of destruction be allied with You, One which devises mischief by decree? 21They band themselves together against the life of the righteous And condemn the innocent to death. 22But the Lord has been my refuge, And my God the rock of my refuge. 23He has brought back their injustice upon them, And He will destroy them in their evil; The Lord our God will destroy them.Chapter 95
1Come, let’s sing for joy to the Lord, Let’s shout joyfully to the rock of our salvation. 2Let’s come before His presence with a song of thanksgiving, Let’s shout joyfully to Him in songs with instruments. 3For the Lord is a great God And a great King above all gods, 4In whose hand are the depths of the earth, The peaks of the mountains are also His. 5 The sea is His, for it was He who made it, And His hands formed the dry land. 6Come, let’s worship and bow down, Let’s kneel before the Lord our Maker. 7For He is our God, And we are the people of His pasture and the sheep of His hand. Today, if you will hear His voice, 8Do not harden your hearts as at Meribah, As on the day of Massah in the wilderness, 9'When your fathers put Me to the test, They tested Me, though they had seen My work. 10For forty years I was disgusted with that generation, And said they are a people who err in their heart, And they do not know My ways. 11Therefore I swore in My anger, They certainly shall not enter My rest.'Chapter 96
1Sing to the Lord a new song; Sing to the Lord, all the earth. 2Sing to the Lord, bless His name; Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day. 3Tell of His glory among the nations, His wonderful deeds among all the peoples. 4For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods. 5For all the gods of the peoples are idols, But the Lord made the heavens. 6Splendor and majesty are before Him, Strength and beauty are in His sanctuary. 7 Ascribe to the Lord, you families of the peoples, Ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. 8 Ascribe to the Lord the glory of His name; Bring an offering and come into His courtyards. 9Worship the Lord in holy attire; Tremble before Him, all the earth. 10Say among the nations, 'The Lord reigns; Indeed, the world is firmly established, it will not be moved; He will judge the peoples fairly.' 11May the heavens be joyful, and may the earth rejoice; May the sea roar, and all it contains; 12May the field be jubilant, and all that is in it. Then all the trees of the forest will sing for joy 13Before the Lord, for He is coming, For He is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness, And the peoples in His faithfulness.Chapter 97
1The Lord reigns, may the earth rejoice; May the many islands be joyful. 2Clouds and thick darkness surround Him; Righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. 3Fire goes before Him And burns up His enemies all around. 4His lightning lit up the world; The earth saw it and trembled. 5The mountains melted like wax at the presence of the Lord, At the presence of the Lord of the whole earth. 6The heavens declare His righteousness, And all the peoples have seen His glory. 7May all those be ashamed who serve carved images, Who boast in idols; Worship Him, all you gods. 8Zion heard this and was joyful, And the daughters of Judah have rejoiced Because of Your judgments, Lord. 9For You are the Lord Most High over all the earth; You are exalted far above all gods. 10Hate evil, you who love the Lord, Who watches over the souls of His godly ones; He saves them from the hand of the wicked. 11Light is sown like seed for the righteous, And gladness for the upright in heart. 12Be joyful in the Lord, you righteous ones, And praise the mention of His holy name.King James Version
Chapter 91
1He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.Chapter 94
1O Lord God, to whom vengeance belongeth; O God, to whom vengeance belongeth, shew thyself.
13That thou mayest give him rest from the days of adversity, until the pit be digged for the wicked.
21They gather themselves together against the soul of the righteous, and condemn the innocent blood.

Chapter 91
1The one who lives under the protection of the Most High dwells in the shadow of the Almighty. 2I will say concerning the Lord, who is my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust: 3He himself will rescue you from the bird trap, from the destructive plague. 4He will cover you with his feathers; you will take refuge under his wings. His faithfulness will be a protective shield. 5You will not fear the terror of the night, the arrow that flies by day, 6the plague that stalks in darkness, or the pestilence that ravages at noon. 7Though a thousand fall at your side and ten thousand at your right hand, the pestilence will not reach you.
8You will only see it with your eyes and witness the punishment of the wicked.
9Because you have made the Lord —my refuge, the Most High—your dwelling place,
10no harm will come to you; no plague will come near your tent.
11For he will give his angels orders concerning you, to protect you in all your ways.
12They will support you with their hands so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
13You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the young lion and the serpent.
14Because he has his heart set on me, I will deliver him; I will protect him because he knows my name.
15When he calls out to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble. I will rescue him and give him honor.
16I will satisfy him with a long life and show him my salvation.
Chapter 92
1A psalm. A song for the Sabbath day. It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praise to your name, Most High, 2to declare your faithful love in the morning and your faithfulness at night,
3with a ten-stringed harp and the music of a lyre.
4For you have made me rejoice, Lord, by what you have done; I will shout for joy because of the works of your hands.
5How magnificent are your works, Lord, how profound your thoughts!
6A stupid person does not know, a fool does not understand this:
7though the wicked sprout like grass and all evildoers flourish, they will be eternally destroyed.
8But you, Lord, are exalted forever.
9For indeed, Lord, your enemies— indeed, your enemies will perish; all evildoers will be scattered.
10You have lifted up my horn like that of a wild ox; I have been anointed with the finest oil.
11My eyes look at my enemies; when evildoers rise against me, my ears hear them.
12The righteous thrive like a palm tree and grow like a cedar tree in Lebanon.
13Planted in the house of the Lord, they thrive in the courts of our God.
14They will still bear fruit in old age, healthy and green,
15to declare: "The Lord is just; he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him."
Chapter 93
1The Lord reigns! He is robed in majesty; the Lord is robed, enveloped in strength. The world is firmly established; it cannot be shaken. 2Your throne has been established from the beginning; you are from eternity. 3The floods have lifted up, Lord, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their pounding waves.
4Greater than the roar of a huge torrent— the mighty breakers of the sea— the Lord on high is majestic.
5 Lord, your testimonies are completely reliable; holiness adorns your house for all the days to come.
Chapter 94
1 Lord, God of vengeance— God of vengeance, shine! 2Rise up, Judge of the earth; repay the proud what they deserve.
3 Lord, how long will the wicked— how long will the wicked celebrate?
4They pour out arrogant words; all the evildoers boast.
5 Lord, they crush your people; they oppress your heritage.
6They kill the widow and the resident alien and murder the fatherless.
7They say, "The Lord doesn’t see it. The God of Jacob doesn’t pay attention."
8Pay attention, you stupid people! Fools, when will you be wise?
9Can the one who shaped the ear not hear, the one who formed the eye not see?
10The one who instructs nations, the one who teaches mankind knowledge— does he not discipline?
11The Lord knows the thoughts of mankind; they are futile.
12 Lord, how happy is anyone you discipline and teach from your law
13to give him relief from troubled times until a pit is dug for the wicked.
14The Lord will not leave his people or abandon his heritage,
15for the administration of justice will again be righteous, and all the upright in heart will follow it.
16Who stands up for me against the wicked? Who takes a stand for me against evildoers?
17If the Lord had not been my helper, I would soon rest in the silence of death.
18If I say, "My foot is slipping," your faithful love will support me, Lord.
19When I am filled with cares, your comfort brings me joy.
20Can a corrupt throne be your ally, a throne that makes evil laws?
21They band together against the life of the righteous and condemn the innocent to death.
22But the Lord is my refuge; my God is the rock of my protection.
23He will pay them back for their sins and destroy them for their evil. The Lord our God will destroy them.
Chapter 95
1Come, let us shout joyfully to the Lord, shout triumphantly to the rock of our salvation!
2Let us enter his presence with thanksgiving; let us shout triumphantly to him in song.
3For the Lord is a great God, a great King above all gods.
4The depths of the earth are in his hand, and the mountain peaks are his.
5The sea is his; he made it. His hands formed the dry land.
6Come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.
7For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, the sheep under his care. Today, if you hear his voice:
8Do not harden your hearts as at Meribah, as on that day at Massah in the wilderness
9where your fathers tested me; they tried me, though they had seen what I did.
10For forty years I was disgusted with that generation; I said, "They are a people whose hearts go astray; they do not know my ways."
11So I swore in my anger, "They will not enter my rest."
Chapter 96
1 Sing a new song to the Lord; let the whole earth sing to the Lord. 2Sing to the Lord, bless his name; proclaim his salvation from day to day.
3Declare his glory among the nations, his wondrous works among all peoples.
4For the Lord is great and is highly praised; he is feared above all gods.
5For all the gods of the peoples are idols, but the Lord made the heavens.
6Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.
7Ascribe to the Lord, you families of the peoples, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
8Ascribe to the Lord the glory of his name; bring an offering and enter his courts.
9Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness; let the whole earth tremble before him.
10Say among the nations: "The Lord reigns. The world is firmly established; it cannot be shaken. He judges the peoples fairly."
11Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice; let the sea and all that fills it resound.
12Let the fields and everything in them celebrate. Then all the trees of the forest will shout for joy
13before the Lord, for he is coming— for he is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world with righteousness and the peoples with his faithfulness.
Chapter 97
1The Lord reigns! Let the earth rejoice; let the many coasts and islands be glad. 2Clouds and total darkness surround him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne. 3Fire goes before him and burns up his foes on every side. 4His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles.
7All who serve carved images, those who boast in idols, will be put to shame. All the gods must worship him.
8Zion hears and is glad, Judah’s villages rejoice because of your judgments, Lord.
9For you, Lord, are the Most High over the whole earth; you are exalted above all the gods.
10You who love the Lord, hate evil! He protects the lives of his faithful ones; he rescues them from the power of the wicked.
11Light dawns for the righteous, gladness for the upright in heart.
12Be glad in the Lord, you righteous ones, and give thanks to his holy name.
New Living Translation
Chapter 91
1Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. 2This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him. 3For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease. 4He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection. 5Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the arrow that flies in the day. 6Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday. 7Though a thousand fall at your side, though ten thousand are dying around you, these evils will not touch you. 8Just open your eyes, and see how the wicked are punished.
9If you make the Lord your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter,
10no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home.
11For he will order his angels to protect you wherever you go.
12They will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.
13You will trample upon lions and cobras; you will crush fierce lions and serpents under your feet!
14The Lord says, 'I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name.
15When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them.
16I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation.'
Chapter 92
1It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to the Most High. 2It is good to proclaim your unfailing love in the morning, your faithfulness in the evening, 3accompanied by a ten-stringed instrument, a harp, and the melody of a lyre.
4You thrill me, Lord, with all you have done for me! I sing for joy because of what you have done.
5O Lord, what great works you do! And how deep are your thoughts.
6Only a simpleton would not know, and only a fool would not understand this:
7Though the wicked sprout like weeds and evildoers flourish, they will be destroyed forever.
8But you, O Lord, will be exalted forever.
9Your enemies, Lord, will surely perish; all evildoers will be scattered.
10But you have made me as strong as a wild ox. You have anointed me with the finest oil.
11My eyes have seen the downfall of my enemies; my ears have heard the defeat of my wicked opponents.
12But the godly will flourish like palm trees and grow strong like the cedars of Lebanon.
13For they are transplanted to the Lord’s own house. They flourish in the courts of our God.
14Even in old age they will still produce fruit; they will remain vital and green.
15They will declare, 'The Lord is just! He is my rock! There is no evil in him!'
2Your throne, O Lord, has stood from time immemorial. You yourself are from the everlasting past.
3The floods have risen up, O Lord. The floods have roared like thunder; the floods have lifted their pounding waves.
4But mightier than the violent raging of the seas, mightier than the breakers on the shore — the Lord above is mightier than these!
5Your royal laws cannot be changed. Your reign, O Lord, is holy forever and ever.
Chapter 94
1O Lord, the God of vengeance, O God of vengeance, let your glorious justice shine forth! 2Arise, O Judge of the earth. Give the proud what they deserve. 3How long, O Lord? How long will the wicked be allowed to gloat? 4How long will they speak with arrogance? How long will these evil people boast? 5They crush your people, Lord, hurting those you claim as your own. 6They kill widows and foreigners and murder orphans. 7'The Lord isn’t looking,' they say, 'and besides, the God of Israel doesn’t care.'
8Think again, you fools! When will you finally catch on?
9Is he deaf — the one who made your ears? Is he blind — the one who formed your eyes?
10He punishes the nations — won’t he also punish you? He knows everything — doesn’t he also know what you are doing?
11The Lord knows people’s thoughts; he knows they are worthless!
12Joyful are those you discipline, Lord, those you teach with your instructions.
13You give them relief from troubled times until a pit is dug to capture the wicked.
14The Lord will not reject his people; he will not abandon his special possession.
15Judgment will again be founded on justice, and those with virtuous hearts will pursue it.
16Who will protect me from the wicked? Who will stand up for me against evildoers?
17Unless the Lord had helped me, I would soon have settled in the silence of the grave.
18I cried out, 'I am slipping!' but your unfailing love, O Lord, supported me.
19When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.
20Can unjust leaders claim that God is on their side — leaders whose decrees permit injustice?
21They gang up against the righteous and condemn the innocent to death.
22But the Lord is my fortress; my God is the mighty rock where I hide.
23God will turn the sins of evil people back on them. He will destroy them for their sins. The Lord our God will destroy them.
Chapter 95
1Come, let us sing to the Lord! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation. 2Let us come to him with thanksgiving. Let us sing psalms of praise to him. 3For the Lord is a great God, a great King above all gods. 4He holds in his hands the depths of the earth and the mightiest mountains. 5The sea belongs to him, for he made it. His hands formed the dry land, too.
7for he is our God. We are the people he watches over, the flock under his care. If only you would listen to his voice today!
8The Lord says, 'Don’t harden your hearts as Israel did at Meribah, as they did at Massah in the wilderness.
9For there your ancestors tested and tried my patience, even though they saw everything I did.
10For forty years I was angry with them, and I said, ‘They are a people whose hearts turn away from me. They refuse to do what I tell them.’
11So in my anger I took an oath: ‘They will never enter my place of rest.’'
Chapter 96
1Sing a new song to the Lord! Let the whole earth sing to the Lord! 2Sing to the Lord; praise his name. Each day proclaim the good news that he saves. 3Publish his glorious deeds among the nations. Tell everyone about the amazing things he does. 4Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise! He is to be feared above all gods. 5The gods of other nations are mere idols, but the Lord made the heavens! 6Honor and majesty surround him; strength and beauty fill his sanctuary.
7O nations of the world, recognize the Lord; recognize that the Lord is glorious and strong.
8Give to the Lord the glory he deserves! Bring your offering and come into his courts.
9Worship the Lord in all his holy splendor. Let all the earth tremble before him.
10Tell all the nations, 'The Lord reigns!' The world stands firm and cannot be shaken. He will judge all peoples fairly.
11Let the heavens be glad, and the earth rejoice! Let the sea and everything in it shout his praise!
12Let the fields and their crops burst out with joy! Let the trees of the forest sing for joy
13before the Lord, for he is coming! He is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world with justice, and the nations with his truth.
Chapter 97
1The Lord is king! Let the earth rejoice! Let the farthest coastlands be glad. 2Dark clouds surround him. Righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne. 3Fire spreads ahead of him and burns up all his foes. 4His lightning flashes out across the world. The earth sees and trembles. 5The mountains melt like wax before the Lord, before the Lord of all the earth. 6The heavens proclaim his righteousness; every nation sees his glory. 7Those who worship idols are disgraced — all who brag about their worthless gods — for every god must bow to him. 8Jerusalem has heard and rejoiced, and all the towns of Judah are glad because of your justice, O Lord! 9For you, O Lord, are supreme over all the earth; you are exalted far above all gods.English Standard Version
Chapter 91
1He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. 2I will say to the Lord, "My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust." 3For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. 4He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler. 5 You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, 6nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor the destruction that wastes at noonday. 7A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. 8You will only look with your eyes and see the recompense of the wicked. 9Because you have made the Lord your dwelling place — the Most High, who is my refuge — 10 no evil shall be allowed to befall you, no plague come near your tent. 11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. 12On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone. 13You will tread on the lion and the adder; the young lion and the serpent you will trample underfoot. 14"Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he knows my name. 15When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. 16With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation."Chapter 92
1 It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to your name, O Most High; 2to declare your steadfast love in the morning, and your faithfulness by night, 3to the music of the lute and the harp, to the melody of the lyre. 4For you, O Lord, have made me glad by your work; at the works of your hands I sing for joy. 5How great are your works, O Lord! Your thoughts are very deep! 6The stupid man cannot know; the fool cannot understand this: 7that though the wicked sprout like grass and all evildoers flourish, they are doomed to destruction forever; 8but you, O Lord, are on high forever. 9For behold, your enemies, O Lord, for behold, your enemies shall perish; all evildoers shall be scattered. 10But you have exalted my horn like that of the wild ox; you have poured over me fresh oil. 11My eyes have seen the downfall of my enemies; my ears have heard the doom of my evil assailants. 12 The righteous flourish like the palm tree and grow like a cedar in Lebanon. 13They are planted in the house of the Lord; they flourish in the courts of our God. 14They still bear fruit in old age; they are ever full of sap and green, 15 to declare that the Lord is upright; he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.Chapter 93
1 The Lord reigns; he is robed in majesty; the Lord is robed; he has put on strength as his belt. Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved. 2 Your throne is established from of old; you are from everlasting. 3 The floods have lifted up, O Lord, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their roaring. 4Mightier than the thunders of many waters, mightier than the waves of the sea, the Lord on high is mighty! 5Your decrees are very trustworthy; holiness befits your house, O Lord, forevermore.Chapter 94
1O Lord, God of vengeance, O God of vengeance, shine forth! 2 Rise up, O judge of the earth; repay to the proud what they deserve! 3O Lord, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked exult? 4They pour out their arrogant words; all the evildoers boast. 5They crush your people, O Lord, and afflict your heritage. 6They kill the widow and the sojourner, and murder the fatherless; 7 and they say, "The Lord does not see; the God of Jacob does not perceive." 8 Understand, O dullest of the people! Fools, when will you be wise? 9 He who planted the ear, does he not hear? He who formed the eye, does he not see? 10He who disciplines the nations, does he not rebuke? He who teaches man knowledge — 11 the Lord — knows the thoughts of man, that they are but a breath. 12 Blessed is the man whom you discipline, O Lord, and whom you teach out of your law, 13to give him rest from days of trouble, until a pit is dug for the wicked. 14 For the Lord will not forsake his people; he will not abandon his heritage; 15for justice will return to the righteous, and all the upright in heart will follow it. 16 Who rises up for me against the wicked? Who stands up for me against evildoers? 17 If the Lord had not been my help, my soul would soon have lived in the land of silence. 18When I thought, "My foot slips," your steadfast love, O Lord, held me up. 19When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul. 20Can wicked rulers be allied with you, those who frame injustice by statute? 21They band together against the life of the righteous and condemn the innocent to death. 22But the Lord has become my stronghold, and my God the rock of my refuge. 23He will bring back on them their iniquity and wipe them out for their wickedness; the Lord our God will wipe them out.Chapter 95
1Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! 2Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise! 3For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods. 4In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also. 5The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land. 6Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker! 7For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. Today, if you hear his voice, 8 do not harden your hearts, as at Meribah, as on the day at Massah in the wilderness, 9when your fathers put me to the test and put me to the proof, though they had seen my work. 10 For forty years I loathed that generation and said, "They are a people who go astray in their heart, and they have not known my ways." 11Therefore I swore in my wrath, "They shall not enter my rest."Chapter 96
1 Oh sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth! 2Sing to the Lord, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day. 3Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples! 4For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; he is to be feared above all gods. 5For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols, but the Lord made the heavens. 6Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and beauty are in his sanctuary. 7Ascribe to the Lord, O families of the peoples, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength! 8Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; bring an offering, and come into his courts! 9Worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness; tremble before him, all the earth! 10Say among the nations, "The Lord reigns! Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved; he will judge the peoples with equity." 11Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; let the sea roar, and all that fills it; 12let the field exult, and everything in it! Then shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy 13before the Lord, for he comes, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness, and the peoples in his faithfulness.Chapter 97
1 The Lord reigns, let the earth rejoice; let the many coastlands be glad! 2 Clouds and thick darkness are all around him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne. 3 Fire goes before him and burns up his adversaries all around. 4His lightnings light up the world; the earth sees and trembles. 5The mountains melt like wax before the Lord, before the Lord of all the earth. 6 The heavens proclaim his righteousness, and all the peoples see his glory. 7All worshipers of images are put to shame, who make their boast in worthless idols; worship him, all you gods! 8Zion hears and is glad, and the daughters of Judah rejoice, because of your judgments, O Lord. 9For you, O Lord, are most high over all the earth; you are exalted far above all gods. 10O you who love the Lord, hate evil! He preserves the lives of his saints; he delivers them from the hand of the wicked. 11 Light is sown for the righteous, and joy for the upright in heart. 12 Rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous, and give thanks to his holy name!New International Version
2I will say of the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust."
3Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.
4He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day,
6nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.
7A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.
8You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked.
9If you say, "The Lord is my refuge," and you make the Most High your dwelling,
10no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent.
11For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;
12they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
13You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
14"Because he loves me," says the Lord, "I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.
16With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation."
Chapter 92
1A psalm. A song. For the Sabbath day. It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name, O Most High, 2proclaiming your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night,
3to the music of the ten-stringed lyre and the melody of the harp.
4For you make me glad by your deeds, Lord; I sing for joy at what your hands have done.
5How great are your works, Lord, how profound your thoughts!
6Senseless people do not know, fools do not understand,
8But you, Lord, are forever exalted.
9For surely your enemies, Lord, surely your enemies will perish; all evildoers will be scattered.
10You have exalted my horn like that of a wild ox; fine oils have been poured on me.
11My eyes have seen the defeat of my adversaries; my ears have heard the rout of my wicked foes.
12The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon;
13planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God.
14They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green,
15proclaiming, "The Lord is upright; he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him."
2Your throne was established long ago; you are from all eternity.
3The seas have lifted up, Lord, the seas have lifted up their voice; the seas have lifted up their pounding waves.
4Mightier than the thunder of the great waters, mightier than the breakers of the sea— the Lord on high is mighty.
5Your statutes, Lord, stand firm; holiness adorns your house for endless days.
Chapter 94
1The Lord is a God who avenges. O God who avenges, shine forth. 2Rise up, Judge of the earth; pay back to the proud what they deserve.
3How long, Lord, will the wicked, how long will the wicked be jubilant?
4They pour out arrogant words; all the evildoers are full of boasting.
5They crush your people, Lord; they oppress your inheritance.
6They slay the widow and the foreigner; they murder the fatherless.
7They say, "The Lord does not see; the God of Jacob takes no notice."
8Take notice, you senseless ones among the people; you fools, when will you become wise?
9Does he who fashioned the ear not hear? Does he who formed the eye not see?
10Does he who disciplines nations not punish? Does he who teaches mankind lack knowledge?
11The Lord knows all human plans; he knows that they are futile.
12Blessed is the one you discipline, Lord, the one you teach from your law;
13you grant them relief from days of trouble, till a pit is dug for the wicked.
14For the Lord will not reject his people; he will never forsake his inheritance.
15Judgment will again be founded on righteousness, and all the upright in heart will follow it.
16Who will rise up for me against the wicked? Who will take a stand for me against evildoers?
17Unless the Lord had given me help, I would soon have dwelt in the silence of death.
18When I said, "My foot is slipping," your unfailing love, Lord, supported me.
19When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.
20Can a corrupt throne be allied with you— a throne that brings on misery by its decrees?
21The wicked band together against the righteous and condemn the innocent to death.
22But the Lord has become my fortress, and my God the rock in whom I take refuge.
23He will repay them for their sins and destroy them for their wickedness; the Lord our God will destroy them.
2Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song.
3For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods.
4In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him.
5The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.
6Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker;
7for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care. Today, if only you would hear his voice,
8"Do not harden your hearts as you did at Meribah, as you did that day at Massah in the wilderness,
9where your ancestors tested me; they tried me, though they had seen what I did.
10For forty years I was angry with that generation; I said, ‘They are a people whose hearts go astray, and they have not known my ways.’
11So I declared on oath in my anger, ‘They shall never enter my rest.’ "
