Revelation 9:3-19
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 9
3Then out of the smoke came locusts upon the earth, and power was given them, as the scorpions of the earth have power. 4They were told not to hurt the grass of the earth, nor any green thing, nor any tree, but only the people who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads. 5And they were not permitted to kill anyone, but to torment for five months; and their torment was like the torment of a scorpion when it stings a person. 6And in those days people will seek death and will not find it; they will long to die, and death will flee from them!
7The appearance of the locusts was like horses prepared for battle; and on their heads appeared to be crowns like gold, and their faces were like human faces.
8They had hair like the hair of women, and their teeth were like the teeth of lions.
9They had breastplates like breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was like the sound of chariots, of many horses rushing to battle.
10They have tails like scorpions, and stings; and in their tails is their power to hurt people for five months.
11They have as king over them, the angel of the abyss; his name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in the Greek he has the name Apollyon.
13Then the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God,
14saying to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, 'Release the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates.'
15And the four angels, who had been prepared for the hour and day and month and year, were released, so that they would kill a third of mankind.
16The number of the armies of the horsemen was two hundred million; I heard the number of them.
17And this is how I saw in my vision the horses and those who sat on them: the riders had breastplates the color of fire, of hyacinth, and of brimstone; and the heads of the horses are like the heads of lions; and out of their mouths *came fire and smoke and brimstone.
18A third of mankind was killed by these three plagues, by the fire, the smoke, and the brimstone which came out of their mouths.
19For the power of the horses is in their mouths and in their tails; for their tails are like serpents and have heads, and with them they do harm.

Chapter 9
3And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. 4And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads. 5And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man. 6And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them.
7And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battle; and on their heads were as it were crowns like gold, and their faces were as the faces of men.
8And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions.
9And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battle.
10And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months.
11And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.
13And the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God,
14Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates.
15And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men.
16And the number of the army of the horsemen were two hundred thousand thousand: and I heard the number of them.
17And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them, having breastplates of fire, and of jacinth, and brimstone: and the heads of the horses were as the heads of lions; and out of their mouths issued fire and smoke and brimstone.
18By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths.
19For their power is in their mouth, and in their tails: for their tails were like unto serpents, and had heads, and with them they do hurt.

Chapter 9
3Then locusts came out of the smoke on to the earth, and power was given to them like the power that scorpions have on the earth. 4They were told not to harm the grass of the earth, or any green plant, or any tree, but only those people who do not have God’s seal on their foreheads. 5They were not permitted to kill them but were to torment them for five months; their torment is like the torment caused by a scorpion when it stings someone. 6In those days people will seek death and will not find it; they will long to die, but death will flee from them.
7The appearance of the locusts was like horses prepared for battle. Something like golden crowns was on their heads; their faces were like human faces;
8they had hair like women’s hair; their teeth were like lions’ teeth;
9they had chests like iron breastplates; the sound of their wings was like the sound of many chariots with horses rushing into battle;
10and they had tails with stingers like scorpions, so that with their tails they had the power to harm people for five months.
11They had as their king the angel of the abyss; his name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek he has the name Apollyon.
13The sixth angel blew his trumpet. From the four horns of the golden altar that is before God, I heard a voice
14say to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, "Release the four angels bound at the great river Euphrates."
15So the four angels who were prepared for the hour, day, month, and year were released to kill a third of the human race.
16The number of mounted troops was two hundred million; I heard their number.
17This is how I saw the horses and their riders in the vision: They had breastplates that were fiery red, hyacinth blue, and sulfur yellow. The heads of the horses were like the heads of lions, and from their mouths came fire, smoke, and sulfur.
18A third of the human race was killed by these three plagues—by the fire, the smoke, and the sulfur that came from their mouths.
19For the power of the horses is in their mouths and in their tails, because their tails, which resemble snakes, have heads that inflict injury.

Chapter 9
3Then locusts came from the smoke and descended on the earth, and they were given power to sting like scorpions. 4They were told not to harm the grass or plants or trees, but only the people who did not have the seal of God on their foreheads. 5They were told not to kill them but to torture them for five months with pain like the pain of a scorpion sting. 6In those days people will seek death but will not find it. They will long to die, but death will flee from them!
7The locusts looked like horses prepared for battle. They had what looked like gold crowns on their heads, and their faces looked like human faces.
8They had hair like women’s hair and teeth like the teeth of a lion.
9They wore armor made of iron, and their wings roared like an army of chariots rushing into battle.
10They had tails that stung like scorpions, and for five months they had the power to torment people.
11Their king is the angel from the bottomless pit; his name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek, Apollyon — the Destroyer.
13Then the sixth angel blew his trumpet, and I heard a voice speaking from the four horns of the gold altar that stands in the presence of God.
14And the voice said to the sixth angel who held the trumpet, 'Release the four angels who are bound at the great Euphrates River.'
15Then the four angels who had been prepared for this hour and day and month and year were turned loose to kill one-third of all the people on earth.
16I heard the size of their army, which was 200 million mounted troops.
17And in my vision, I saw the horses and the riders sitting on them. The riders wore armor that was fiery red and dark blue and yellow. The horses had heads like lions, and fire and smoke and burning sulfur billowed from their mouths.
18One-third of all the people on earth were killed by these three plagues — by the fire and smoke and burning sulfur that came from the mouths of the horses.
19Their power was in their mouths and in their tails. For their tails had heads like snakes, with the power to injure people.

Chapter 9
3Then from the smoke came locusts on the earth, and they were given power like the power of scorpions of the earth. 4They were told not to harm the grass of the earth or any green plant or any tree, but only those people who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads. 5They were allowed to torment them for five months, but not to kill them, and their torment was like the torment of a scorpion when it stings someone. 6And in those days people will seek death and will not find it. They will long to die, but death will flee from them.
7In appearance the locusts were like horses prepared for battle: on their heads were what looked like crowns of gold; their faces were like human faces,
8their hair like women 's hair, and their teeth like lions ' teeth;
9they had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the noise of their wings was like the noise of many chariots with horses rushing into battle.
10They have tails and stings like scorpions, and their power to hurt people for five months is in their tails.
11They have as king over them the angel of the bottomless pit. His name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek he is called Apollyon.

15So the four angels, who had been prepared for the hour, the day, the month, and the year, were released to kill a third of mankind.
16The number of mounted troops was twice ten thousand times ten thousand; I heard their number.
17And this is how I saw the horses in my vision and those who rode them: they wore breastplates the color of fire and of sapphire and of sulfur, and the heads of the horses were like lions ' heads, and fire and smoke and sulfur came out of their mouths.
18By these three plagues a third of mankind was killed, by the fire and smoke and sulfur coming out of their mouths.
19For the power of the horses is in their mouths and in their tails, for their tails are like serpents with heads, and by means of them they wound.

Chapter 9
3And out of the smoke locusts came down on the earth and were given power like that of scorpions of the earth. 4They were told not to harm the grass of the earth or any plant or tree, but only those people who did not have the seal of God on their foreheads. 5They were not allowed to kill them but only to torture them for five months. And the agony they suffered was like that of the sting of a scorpion when it strikes. 6During those days people will seek death but will not find it; they will long to die, but death will elude them.
7The locusts looked like horses prepared for battle. On their heads they wore something like crowns of gold, and their faces resembled human faces.
8Their hair was like women’s hair, and their teeth were like lions’ teeth.
9They had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the sound of their wings was like the thundering of many horses and chariots rushing into battle.
10They had tails with stingers, like scorpions, and in their tails they had power to torment people for five months.
11They had as king over them the angel of the Abyss, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon and in Greek is Apollyon (that is, Destroyer).
13The sixth angel sounded his trumpet, and I heard a voice coming from the four horns of the golden altar that is before God.
14It said to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, "Release the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates."
15And the four angels who had been kept ready for this very hour and day and month and year were released to kill a third of mankind.
16The number of the mounted troops was twice ten thousand times ten thousand. I heard their number.
17The horses and riders I saw in my vision looked like this: Their breastplates were fiery red, dark blue, and yellow as sulfur. The heads of the horses resembled the heads of lions, and out of their mouths came fire, smoke and sulfur.
18A third of mankind was killed by the three plagues of fire, smoke and sulfur that came out of their mouths.
19The power of the horses was in their mouths and in their tails; for their tails were like snakes, having heads with which they inflict injury.
