Ruth 1:2-9
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 1
2The name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of his wife, Naomi; and the names of his two sons were Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of Bethlehem in Judah. So they entered the land of Moab and remained there. 3Then Elimelech, Naomi’s husband, died; and she was left with her two sons. 4And they took for themselves Moabite women as wives; the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other, Ruth. And they lived there about ten years. 5Then both Mahlon and Chilion also died, and the woman was left without her two sons and her husband.
6Then she arose with her daughters-in-law to return from the land of Moab, because she had heard in the land of Moab that the Lord had visited His people by giving them food.
7So she departed from the place where she was, and her two daughters-in-law with her; and they went on the way to return to the land of Judah.
8But Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, 'Go, return each of you to your mother’s house. May the Lord deal kindly with you as you have dealt with the dead and with me.
9May the Lord grant that you may find a place of rest, each one in the house of her husband.' Then she kissed them, and they raised their voices and wept.

Chapter 1
2The man’s name was Elimelech, and his wife’s name was Naomi. The names of his two sons were Mahlon and Chilion. They were Ephrathites from Bethlehem in Judah. They entered the fields of Moab and settled there. 3Naomi’s husband Elimelech died, and she was left with her two sons. 4Her sons took Moabite women as their wives: one was named Orpah and the second was named Ruth. After they lived in Moab about ten years, 5both Mahlon and Chilion also died, and Naomi was left without her two children and without her husband.
6She and her daughters-in-law set out to return from the territory of Moab, because she had heard in Moab that the Lord had paid attention to his people’s need by providing them food.
7She left the place where she had been living, accompanied by her two daughters-in-law, and traveled along the road leading back to the land of Judah.
New Living Translation
3Then Elimelech died, and Naomi was left with her two sons.
4The two sons married Moabite women. One married a woman named Orpah, and the other a woman named Ruth. But about ten years later,
5both Mahlon and Kilion died. This left Naomi alone, without her two sons or her husband.
6Then Naomi heard in Moab that the Lord had blessed his people in Judah by giving them good crops again. So Naomi and her daughters-in-law got ready to leave Moab to return to her homeland.
7With her two daughters-in-law she set out from the place where she had been living, and they took the road that would lead them back to Judah.
