Zechariah 1:1-15

Chapter 1
1In the eighth month of the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came to Zechariah the prophet, the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo saying, 2The Lord was very angry with your fathers. 3Therefore say to them, ‘This is what the Lord of armies says: 'Return to Me,' declares the Lord of armies, 'that I may return to you,' says the Lord of armies. 4Do not be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets proclaimed, saying, ‘This is what the Lord of armies says: 'Return now from your evil ways and from your evil deeds.'?’ But they did not listen or pay attention to Me,' declares the Lord. 5Your fathers, where are they? And the prophets, do they live forever? 6But did My words and My statutes, which I commanded My servants the prophets, not overtake your fathers? Then they repented and said, ‘Just as the Lord of armies planned to do to us in accordance with our ways and our deeds, so He has dealt with us.’?'?’?'
7On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, that is, the month Shebat, in the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came to Zechariah the prophet, the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, as follows:
8I saw at night, and behold, a man was riding on a red horse, and he was standing among the myrtle trees which were in the ravine, with red, sorrel, and white horses behind him.
9Then I said, 'What are these, my lord?' And the angel who was speaking with me said to me, 'I will show you what these are.'
10And the man who was standing among the myrtle trees responded and said, 'These are the ones whom the Lord has sent to patrol the earth.'
11So they responded to the angel of the Lord who was standing among the myrtle trees and said, 'We have patrolled the earth, and behold, all the earth is still and quiet.'
12Then the angel of the Lord said, 'Lord of armies, how long will You take no pity on Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, with which You have been indignant for these seventy years?'
13And the Lord responded to the angel who was speaking with me with gracious words, comforting words.
14So the angel who was speaking with me said to me, 'Proclaim, saying, ‘This is what the Lord of armies says: 'I am exceedingly jealous for Jerusalem and Zion.
15But I am very angry with the nations who are carefree; for while I was only a little angry, they furthered the disaster.'

2The Lord hath been sore displeased with your fathers.
3Therefore say thou unto them, Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Turn ye unto me, saith the Lord of hosts, and I will turn unto you, saith the Lord of hosts.
4Be ye not as your fathers, unto whom the former prophets have cried, saying, Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Turn ye now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings: but they did not hear, nor hearken unto me, saith the Lord.
5Your fathers, where are they? and the prophets, do they live for ever?
6But my words and my statutes, which I commanded my servants the prophets, did they not take hold of your fathers? and they returned and said, Like as the Lord of hosts thought to do unto us, according to our ways, and according to our doings, so hath he dealt with us.
7Upon the four and twentieth day of the eleventh month, which is the month Sebat, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the Lord unto Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying,
8I saw by night, and behold a man riding upon a red horse, and he stood among the myrtle trees that were in the bottom; and behind him were there red horses, speckled, and white.
9Then said I, O my lord, what are these? And the angel that talked with me said unto me, I will shew thee what these be.
10And the man that stood among the myrtle trees answered and said, These are they whom the Lord hath sent to walk to and fro through the earth.
11And they answered the angel of the Lord that stood among the myrtle trees, and said, We have walked to and fro through the earth, and, behold, all the earth sitteth still, and is at rest.
12Then the angel of the Lord answered and said, O Lord of hosts, how long wilt thou not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which thou hast had indignation these threescore and ten years?
13And the Lord answered the angel that talked with me with good words and comfortable words.
14So the angel that communed with me said unto me, Cry thou, saying, Thus saith the Lord of hosts; I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy.
15And I am very sore displeased with the heathen that are at ease: for I was but a little displeased, and they helped forward the affliction.

1In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came to the prophet Zechariah son of Berechiah, son of Iddo: 2"The Lord was extremely angry with your ancestors. 3So tell the people, ‘This is what the Lord of Armies says: Return to me—this is the declaration of the Lord of Armies—and I will return to you, says the Lord of Armies. 4Do not be like your ancestors; the earlier prophets proclaimed to them: This is what the Lord of Armies says: Turn from your evil ways and your evil deeds. But they did not listen or pay attention to me—this is the Lord’s declaration. 5Where are your ancestors now? And do the prophets live forever?New Living Translation
2I, the Lord, was very angry with your ancestors.
3Therefore, say to the people, ‘This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: Return to me, and I will return to you, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.’
4Don’t be like your ancestors who would not listen or pay attention when the earlier prophets said to them, ‘This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: Turn from your evil ways, and stop all your evil practices.’
5Where are your ancestors now? They and the prophets are long dead.
6But everything I said through my servants the prophets happened to your ancestors, just as I said. As a result, they repented and said, ‘We have received what we deserved from the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. He has done what he said he would do.’'
12Upon hearing this, the angel of the Lord prayed this prayer: 'O Lord of Heaven’s Armies, for seventy years now you have been angry with Jerusalem and the towns of Judah. How long until you again show mercy to them?'
13And the Lord spoke kind and comforting words to the angel who talked with me.
14Then the angel said to me, 'Shout this message for all to hear: ‘This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: My love for Jerusalem and Mount Zion is passionate and strong.
15But I am very angry with the other nations that are now enjoying peace and security. I was only a little angry with my people, but the nations inflicted harm on them far beyond my intentions.

9Then I said, ‘What are these, my lord?’ The angel who talked with me said to me, ‘I will show you what they are.’
10So the man who was standing among the myrtle trees answered, ‘These are they whom the Lord has sent to patrol the earth.’
11And they answered the angel of the Lord who was standing among the myrtle trees, and said, ‘We have patrolled the earth, and behold, all the earth remains at rest.’
12Then the angel of the Lord said, ‘O Lord of hosts, how long will you have no mercy on Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, against which you have been angry these seventy years?’
13And the Lord answered gracious and comforting words to the angel who talked with me.
14So the angel who talked with me said to me, ‘Cry out, Thus says the Lord of hosts: I am exceedingly jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion.
15And I am exceedingly angry with the nations that are at ease; for while I was angry but a little, they furthered the disaster.

9Then I said, “My lord, what are these?” So the angel who talked with me said to me, “I will show you what they are.”
