ESV: If he designates her for his son, he shall deal with her as with a daughter.

NIV: If he selects her for his son, he must grant her the rights of a daughter.

NASB: And if he designates her for his son, he shall deal with her according to the custom of daughters.

CSB: Or if he chooses her for his son, he must deal with her according to the customary treatment of daughters.

NLT: But if the slave’s owner arranges for her to marry his son, he may no longer treat her as a slave but as a daughter.

KJV: And if he have betrothed her unto his son, he shall deal with her after the manner of daughters.

NKJV: And if he has betrothed her to his son, he shall deal with her according to the custom of daughters.

The book of Exodus establishes God's covenant relationship with the full-fledged nation of Israel. The descendants of Abraham prosper after settling in Egypt, only to be enslaved by a fearful, hateful Egyptian Pharaoh. God appoints Moses to lead the people out of this bondage. Moses serves as God's spokesman, as the Lord brings plagues and judgments on Egypt, leading to the release of Israel.
