ESV: and two chains of pure gold, twisted like cords; and you shall attach the corded chains to the settings.

NIV: and two braided chains of pure gold, like a rope, and attach the chains to the settings.

NASB: and two chains of pure gold; you shall make them of twisted cord work, and you shall put the corded chains on the filigree settings.

CSB: and two chains of pure gold; you will make them of braided cord work, and attach the cord chains to the settings.

NLT: then braid two cords of pure gold and attach them to the filigree settings on the shoulders of the ephod.

The book of Exodus establishes God's covenant relationship with the full-fledged nation of Israel. The descendants of Abraham prosper after settling in Egypt, only to be enslaved by a fearful, hateful Egyptian Pharaoh. God appoints Moses to lead the people out of this bondage. Moses serves as God's spokesman, as the Lord brings plagues and judgments on Egypt, leading to the release of Israel.
