What does Exodus 40:36 mean?
ESV: Throughout all their journeys, whenever the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the people of Israel would set out.
NIV: In all the travels of the Israelites, whenever the cloud lifted from above the tabernacle, they would set out;
NASB: Throughout their journeys, whenever the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the sons of Israel would set out;
CSB: The Israelites set out whenever the cloud was taken up from the tabernacle throughout all the stages of their journey.

Book Summary:
The book of Exodus establishes God's covenant relationship with the full-fledged nation of Israel. The descendants of Abraham prosper after settling in Egypt, only to be enslaved by a fearful, hateful Egyptian Pharaoh. God appoints Moses to lead the people out of this bondage. Moses serves as God's spokesman, as the Lord brings plagues and judgments on Egypt, leading to the release of Israel.
