What does 1 Samuel 9:23 mean?
ESV: And Samuel said to the cook, “Bring the portion I gave you, of which I said to you, ‘Put it aside.’”
NIV: Samuel said to the cook, 'Bring the piece of meat I gave you, the one I told you to lay aside.'
NASB: And Samuel said to the cook, 'Serve the portion that I gave you about which I said to you, ‘Set it aside.’?'
CSB: Then Samuel said to the cook, "Get the portion of meat that I gave you and told you to set aside."
NLT: Samuel then instructed the cook to bring Saul the finest cut of meat, the piece that had been set aside for the guest of honor.

Book Summary:
First Samuel introduces the key figures who led Israel after the era of the judges. The books of 1 and 2 Samuel were originally part of a single text, split in certain translations shortly before the birth of Christ. Some of the Bible’s most famous characters are depicted in this book. These including the prophet Samuel, Israel’s first king, Saul, her greatest king, David, and other famous names such as Goliath and Jonathan. By the end of this book, Saul has fallen; the book of 2 Samuel begins with David’s ascension to the throne.
