ESV: It shall be square and doubled, a span its length and a span its breadth.

NIV: It is to be square--a span long and a span wide--and folded double.

NASB: It shall be square and folded double, a span in length and a span in width.

CSB: It must be square and folded double, nine inches long and nine inches wide.

NLT: Make the chestpiece of a single piece of cloth folded to form a pouch nine inches square.

KJV: Foursquare it shall be being doubled; a span shall be the length thereof, and a span shall be the breadth thereof.

NKJV: It shall be doubled into a square: a span shall be its length, and a span shall be its width.

The book of Exodus establishes God's covenant relationship with the full-fledged nation of Israel. The descendants of Abraham prosper after settling in Egypt, only to be enslaved by a fearful, hateful Egyptian Pharaoh. God appoints Moses to lead the people out of this bondage. Moses serves as God's spokesman, as the Lord brings plagues and judgments on Egypt, leading to the release of Israel.
