What does Jeremiah 42:2 mean?
ESV: and said to Jeremiah the prophet, “Let our plea for mercy come before you, and pray to the LORD your God for us, for all this remnant—because we are left with but a few, as your eyes see us—
NIV: Jeremiah the prophet and said to him, 'Please hear our petition and pray to the LORD your God for this entire remnant. For as you now see, though we were once many, now only a few are left.
NASB: and said to Jeremiah the prophet, 'Please let our pleading come before you, and pray for us to the Lord your God for all this remnant—since we have been left only a few out of many, just as your own eyes now see us—
CSB: the prophet Jeremiah and said, "May our petition come before you; pray to the Lord your God on our behalf, on behalf of this entire remnant (for few of us remain out of the many, as you can see with your own eyes),
NLT: Jeremiah the prophet. They said, 'Please pray to the Lord your God for us. As you can see, we are only a tiny remnant compared to what we were before.
