ESV: they loathed any kind of food, and they drew near to the gates of death.

NIV: They loathed all food and drew near the gates of death.

NASB: Their souls loathed all kinds of food, And they came close to the gates of death.

CSB: They loathed all food and came near the gates of death.

NLT: They couldn’t stand the thought of food, and they were knocking on death’s door.

KJV: Their soul abhorreth all manner of meat; and they draw near unto the gates of death.

NKJV: Their soul abhorred all manner of food, And they drew near to the gates of death.

The book of Psalms is composed of individual songs, hymns, or poems, each of which is a ''Psalm'' in and of itself. These works contain a wide variety of themes. Some Psalms focus on praising and worshipping God. Others cry out in anguish over the pain of life. Still other Psalms look forward to the coming of the Messiah. While some Psalms are related, each has its own historical and biblical context.
